The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Personal Lines Actuarial leads the Personal Lines Actuarial Ratemaking function for Westfield Standard Lines, driving the actuarial performance, analysis, and recommendations. The role combines advanced ratemaking experience and subject matter expertise with business and leadership acumen to direct actuarial work in support of Personal Lines. The role establishes and operationalizes a culture of speed to market, agility and customer focus, collaborates across the organization to enable new and enhanced competitive products, sets the annual goals and budget, and ensures that the team has the right capabilities and processes to deliver actuarial work. Job Responsibilities:
- Leads the Personal Lines Actuarial ratemaking function, ensuring that rate proposals and filings are accurate, rigorous, and aligned with business goals.
- Provides insights to business partners on the overall health of the Personal Lines portfolio with a focus on forecasted profitability and stability.
- Partners with Actuarial Data Science to update and maintain all aspects of the Personal Lines rating plans
- Collaborates with the Actuarial Shared Services function on Rate Level Indications, forecasting, planning, catastrophe management, data, and reporting.
- Directs actuarial strategies, long-term planning, and management of actuarial employees by leading teams of senior managers, managers, and experienced actuaries.
- Provides actuarial expertise, technical support, and compliance for multi-line insurance products, and supports product development, underwriting, and marketing efforts as needed.
- Ensures alignment with the continued development of the company's data governance practices and ensures compliance with established data governance policies.
- Evaluates actuarial risks to develop the appropriate audit coverage, supports model development and change management, and reviews initiatives as needed.
- Maintains, expands, and applies knowledge of the insurance industry, actuarial trends, market conditions, and competitor information and ensures best practice sharing within the function and across the company.
- Oversees preparation of insurance department filings and leads necessary conversations with insurance departments.
- Creates the annual budget and completion of monthly budget variance reporting and forecasts as needed and participates in analysis of variances of actual results.
- Owns accountability for talent management and navigation of employee related issues that impact morale and work environment to ensure a high performing team including hiring and selection, succession planning, performance and compensation management, and employee development and career coaching as required. Manages priorities and workload distribution and removes barriers that impede progress.
- Represents the enterprise through active participation in events, forums and professional industry groups, and creates a network of key contacts to stay abreast of industry changes, and expectations for the future.
Job Qualifications:
- 12+ years of Actuarial work experience with 5+ years of people leadership experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics or a related field and/or commensurate work experience.
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) required
