Responsible for assuring the patient is scheduled for the correct procedure at the appropriate time and with the appropriate resources. Responsible for pre-registration of the scheduled patient. Accurate documentation of the patients' medical insurance and required authorizations is required. It is the responsibility of this position to assure that referring office staff and patients receive the highest customer service available as this is often the patient's first impression.
Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two (2) years medical secretarial/medical clerical experience

2. One (1) year health insurance experience

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Responsible for all scheduling and pre-registration functions necessary to maintain efficient and smooth operations of the scheduling function. Responsible for coordinating the scheduling and ordering of procedures for designated departments based on established guidelines. Schedules services as requested by physician offices or patients, gives preparation for exams and screens for pertinent information prior to scheduling exam. Pre-registers patients in computer system according to the hospital's registration guidelines. Responsible for ascertaining insurance information to comply with managed care regulations or other insurance regulations. Responsible for performing a revenue cycle review and referring appropriate patients to Financial Care Consultants. Maintains records according to hospital and regulatory requirements. Plans and prioritizes daily workload to meet needs of the department and continuity or workload.

2. Strictly maintains telephone/reception skills that are customer focused, positive and friendly. Serves as a role model in demonstrating respect for the customer and the protection of their confidentiality and rights. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and employee information. Conveys a positive attitude and supports harmonious relationships. Communicates effectively with physician office and hospital departments. Collaborates with physician office staff to maintain effective working relationships and to provide education for new office staff members. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing department needs and work requirements. Abides by hospital personnel policies and supports the Mission and Values of the Uniontown Hospital.

3. Assumes responsibility for personal development. Identifies area in need of personal or professional development and set goals to meet those needs. Participates in cross-training functions as direct to allow for maximum flexibility and use of personnel. Presents self in a professional manner and dress. Demonstrates emotional maturity, is tolerant of and able to render constructive criticism. Maintains an orderly and neat work area.

4. Performs all duties/tasks as assigned by the Director/designee. Prioritizes other assignments with the Director/designee to assure target time lines are met. Assists in the training and orientation of new staff members. Maintains department equipment. Records and report equipment malfunctions, including initiating service work orders.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.

3. Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary.

4. Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
