The Quality Technician (QT) at CPI is responsible for the auditing, inspection and testing functions through-out the value stream. In addition, the QT is charged with following up on any process and/or product non-conformances to assure they are brought to an effective solution while assisting with troubleshooting and supporting operations as required.

Hourly rate - $23.00

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 4:00am-4:00pm



Responsibilities

General (The following apply to all Quality Technicians regardless of their level status):

    Adhere to all requirements of the CPI Safety Program.
  • Adhere to all CPI security requirements including counting and documenting the disposition of all cards to and from the operation.
  • Adhere to all requirements of the CPI Quality Management System.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required.

Quality Technician I:

  • Reads and interprets the shop floor documents (proof, job ticket, combo ticket) as well as applicable ISO, Association, and CPI internal specifications.
  • Complete Quality Release testing process including physical testing and visual inspection. Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials or product to measure performance, life or material characteristics.
  • Observe, report, and document quality data information on checklists and/or electronically, as required.
  • Initiates quality hold and non-conformances based upon inspection results
  • Completes in-process audits in Finishing.
  • Coordinates with production supervision regarding completion of testing and in-process audits.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams and projects.
  • Complete incoming inspection process on received raw materials are required
  • Participate in qualification of new processes, equipment, and materials.

Quality Technician II (Completes all Quality Technician I responsibilities, plus):

  • Identify, document and communicate (when applicable) quality information on the Shop Floor documents and other applicable quality forms.
  • Assist with problem solving and trouble-shooting activities.
  • Assure proper completion of rerun and rework activities.
  • Complete verification activities.
  • Assist in monitoring and measuring activities.
  • Participates in Quality Management System requirements including ISO 9001 requirements such as calibration and internal audits.
  • Serve as a quality resource to manufacturing for problem identification and resolution, loss reporting, continuous improvement and recommends corrective action

  • Trains employees on quality standards, processes and corrective action methods.

Quality Technician III (Completes all Quality Technician I & II responsibilities plus):

  • Implements methods for process control and improvements and maintains quality requirements, standards, policies and procedures for manufacturing of existing and new products with minimal waste
  • Inspects work and performs physical testing of work in process and finished product for a variety of qualities such as color, dimension and performance using testing equipment and brings issues and variations to the attention of Quality Manager, Finishing Manager and/or Plant Manager
  • Interprets customer requirements and confers with management or technical staff to ascertain quality and reliability standards
  • Performs demonstrated competency verification on training activities.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures, and evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing quality standards.
  • Complete KPIs reporting and analysis. Uses the data to determine areas of opportunity.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability and with minimal waste.
  • Assist with the development of documentation for the purpose of monitoring the company's cost of quality.
  • Composes and updates forms, training documents, work instructions, test methods, and SOPs.
  • Ensures compliance to association, customer, and ISO standards and updates documentation as needed.

Availability to perform other tasks as required.



Qualifications

Requirements:

General:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • The candidate must have basic skills required to operation technical machinery. They must be able to use a caliper and other hand tools.
  • The candidate must be able to interface with a PC by in putting and out putting data and using basic Microsoft Office Suite products. Keyboard input skills are necessary.

Education:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • College degree or some college education is desired but not required.

Language:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions (written and verbal).
  • Ability to write simple reports.
  • Ability to effectively present in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization in English.

Mathematical:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Reasoning:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in a quality focused manufacturing or service environment is preferred.
  • Experience performing internal audits is preferred.
  • Monitoring and measuring experience is preferred.

Certification/Licenses:

  • American Society for Quality, Certified Quality Auditor Certified is desired but not required.

Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, communicate clearly with others, interact with several different departments throughout each shift.

  • Ability to make decisions regarding compliance of processes and products to specified requirements.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is primarily conducted standing or walking in a manufacturing environment and sitting in an office environment and often requires bending and stooping to observe product and/or manufacturing equipment.
  • Manufacturing environment is noisy and may require ear protection.
  • Work involves good eyesight, hand/eye coordination and excellent color vision to be able to ensure quality product.
  • Work involves dealing with fine detail and constant human interaction, which can be tiring both mentally and physically.
  • Work is conducted in shifts and may require long hours, including weekends and overtime, to meet deadlines.
  • Position may require up to 10% travel.
