If you're a current EMT looking to take your career to the next level as a Paramedic, then you don't want to miss this opportunity! Gundersen Health System is offering fully-funded Paramedic training that will allow current EMTs to advance their practice and become a licensed Paramedic in 12-months. This opportunity offers fulltime pay and benefits while you attend class, study, and work part-time as an EMT in Emergency Services. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be promoted to a Paramedic within the department.

Invest in your career and network with regional EMS leaders while learning from experienced paramedics at GHS, Tri-State Ambulance, and Western Technical College.

Program Highlights:

  • Fully paid paramedic program, including Western Technical College tuition and fees, provided by Gundersen Health System!

  • Western Technical College Paramedic classes will be located in Sparta.

  • Get paid to study AND work with a full EMT wage and part-time job placement while in the program enjoying full employee benefits including health insurance, retirement, and more while working an average of 20-hours per week in the field.

  • Trainees are expected to maintain a 1.0 FTE paid position throughout the program, with 20-hours per week (avg.) scheduled to work as an EMT-level provider. Any adjustment must be approved by the hiring leader & program manager.

  • FTE pay includes work time, program time (class, lab, clinicals) and study time. See policy "Study-Program Time for Paramedic Trainee Program".

  • Candidates will receive on-the-job training while working at the EMT level in addition to clinical rotations in the second half of the program putting new paramedic skills to use.

Timeline:

  • Applications are open now and first-round interviews for selected candidates will begin in late June & early July 2025.

  • Candidates accepted into the Paramedic Trainee Program will begin employment and classes at Western Technical College the week of August 25, 2025

  • Acceptance into the Paramedic Trainee Program will require a 24-month commitment to Gundersen Health System Emergency Services including length of program (as a Paramedic Trainee) and 1-year after successful licensure as a Paramedic.

  • Offer is contingent upon getting into WTC and enrolled in the full-time paramedic program for Fall of 2025. Encouraged to apply to WTC and paramedic program ASAP. Enrollment fees will be reimbursed. A one-timeParamedic Application fee and National Registry Exam Test is included.

Candidate Criteria & Prerequisites:

  • Desire to work in a frontline healthcare setting, adaptability, self-motivated, detail orientated, strong communication skills, and desire to professionally grow while serving their community.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Completion of a qualified NREMT program with current Wisconsin EMT-B license

  • Current and valid CPR (BLS) certification or equivalent.

  • Candidates are responsible to meet both GHS dept/unit commitments, along with Western Technical College class responsibilities (e.g., fulfill course deadlines, class objectives, clinical and lab hours).
