Position Summary

The Sr Manager Financial Planning & Analysis is a strategic leader responsible for driving the organization's $4B+ financial planning process and leveraging financial data to inform and shape key business decisions. This senior role leads and oversees the financial forecasting process, from monthly forecasts (Latest Estimate) and forward-looking analysis to the formulation of a robust 25-year long range plan using innovative financial techniques and sound executive-level judgement.

The position is responsible for providing strategic insights and key performance indicators to executive-level management (CEO and Direct Reports) and governance (Board of Trustees and City of San Antonio), including the preparation of materials that highlight financial narratives and are used to shape organizational direction on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. The Senior Manager is also a critical business partner and serves as a financial lead across the organization, delivering expert financial analysis to senior executive leaders on a wide array of strategic initiatives and complex projects.

The Senior Manager is responsible for navigating substantial complexity, requiring expert financial & economic acumen and technical expertise, to create a financial plan that maintains CPS Energy's strong financial health. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of CPS Energy's technology platform for financial tracking and management reporting.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leads the development/execution of the organization's financial planning process, including monthly forecasts, strategic analysis, and long-term financial planning using leading financial tools/expert financial acumen.
  • Oversees the monthly latest estimate effort. Identifies key trends/drivers behind financial performance. Communicates & presents results to executive management and Board of Trustees. Makes strategic recommendations for adjustments to the financial forecast.
  • Coordinates and partners with the Budgeting teams to manage the Company's budget process, overseeing the financial consolidation of all budget components (retail/wholesale revenue, headcount/labor, O&M expense, capital, debt service, city payment and Repair & Replacement additions) and the Latest Estimate (LE) for CPS Energy. Provides guidance on affordability to key areas.
  • Coordinates with the Budgeting teams to ensure detailed business unit budgets are aligned with corporate targets and that critical enterprise reporting deadlines are met.
  • Leads the preparation of financial slides and other materials that are presented to the CEO Direct Reports, the Board of Trustees, and City of San Antonio staff.
  • Presents financial results and provides forward-looking guidance to the CEO Direct Reports & City of San Antonio financial staff monthly, and the Board of Trustees as needed.
  • Oversees the preparation of the Company's long-range financial plan, coordinating inputs from various areas in the company, developing financial scenarios aligned with the Company's strategic plan while ensuring financial metrics in line with the Company's industry leading credit ratings.
  • Uses economic/financial market data and ERCOT demand projections to provide input into the Company's $4B revenue forecast.
  • Partners with various departments to lead the financial analysis efforts and provides financial input that span across multiple projects within the organization.
  • Partners with Strategic Pricing & Cost Recovery to provide the City of San Antonio Public Utilities Office with financial information to support the City's financial planning and to support rate setting initiatives.
  • Drives continuous improvement in the financial planning process to include enhanced, standardized reporting, automation of processes, and enhancement of business cases and other decision making/prioritization tools.
  • Develops & administers the FP&A departmental budget.
  • Defines, implements, tracks, and utilizes business plan metrics to achieve business objectives, drive continuous improvement, and facilitate workforce planning.
  • Pursues continuous learning opportunities to maintain a full understanding of cutting-edge financial practices that guide our business strategies and enhance decision making, as well as for self-development for future opportunities in other business areas.
  • Implements and maintains development plans (to include mentoring, coaching & developmental assignments) for direct/indirect reports to ensure knowledge capture, business continuity & effective succession planning.
  • Promotes and establishes a safe work environment.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as establish and maintain good working relationships with all levels within CPS Energy and/or other organizations, with a focus on customers.
Effectively balances working independently with minimal supervision while keeping leadership informed about emerging issues and significant activities.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics
  • Knowledge of the energy industry and ERCOT market
  • Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, or other professional designations

Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equip, telephone, multi-functioning printer & calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. After hrs work will be required.
Physical Demands
