Research Science Analyst - Mobility Electrification Model, EV Outlook
Job ID: 98157

Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges-the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place.
Your Impact
The McKinsey Center for Future Mobility is our firm's think tank developing new perspectives and counseling clients on trends in shared mobility, electrification, autonomous vehicles, and consumer sentiment. As a Mobility Analyst within the McKinsey Center for Future Mobility's Mobility Electrification Model Team, you will be instrumental in forecasting electric vehicle (EV) adoption by analyzing consumer pull and regulatory push factors.
Your role will involve leveraging the McKinsey Electric Vehicle Outlook Model to generate scenario-based EV sales and parc forecasts for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, considering total cost of ownership curves, regulatory impacts, and demand and supply drivers. You will conduct in-depth analyses of individual OEM strategies, assessing their market positioning, go-to-market approaches, and investment plans. You apply advanced machine learning algorithms (proficiency not required) to identify drivers and underlying correlations. You will analyze value and profit pools across the automotive value chain, identifying strategic opportunities for OEMs and suppliers in the mobility transition and enabling data-driven recommendations for portfolio and investment decisions.
You will have the opportunity to work both with McKinsey experts as well as directly with clients, where you will develop and customize business insights and model outputs.
You bring a passion for mobility and sustainability to help develop and deploy cutting-edge capabilities and market projections to support our clients. Ideally, you will also bring automotive or mobility expertise and analytical skills to bear. We expect you to develop industry-leading expertise in the above-mentioned McKinsey Center for Future Mobility knowledge domain and to participate in further building our mobility insights and tools.
This is a highly entrepreneurial role with significant space for initiative taking and personal growth. You'll have the opportunity to gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to our firm. You will receive exceptional training as well as frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues across our firm.
Your Growth
Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues-at all levels-will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you'll receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your growth in ways you won't find anywhere else.
When you join us, you will have:
  • Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, we value your ideas and contributions. You'll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions. We not only encourage diverse perspectives, but they are critical in driving us toward the best possible outcomes.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, our firm's diversity fuels creativity and helps us come up with the best solutions for our clients. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: On top of a competitive salary (based on your location, experience, and skills), we provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, mental health, and vision coverage for you, your spouse/partner, and children.
Your qualifications and skills
  • Master's degree in either business, business informatics, economics or STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) preferred
  • 2+ years of professional experience
  • Proficiency in Python to manage and visualize our mobility data insights and guide our developer team in building and improving our mobility tools preferred
  • Background in, or strong interest in automotive and mobility, and a willingness to specialize in the area and bring related expertise to McKinsey teams and clients
  • Strong analytical background with quantitative skills, including knowledge of software/solutions; strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills are a minimum requirement, preferably with Python coding proficiency and data visualization (i.e. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Adept at managing key stakeholders (internal & external), confidence/ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, oftentimes ambiguous environment with senior stakeholders
  • Strong process management skills, autonomously coordinating multiple workstreams in parallel and with foresight
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
