New Hanover County's Health department is seeking an experienced nursing professional to join their team as a
Casual Part Time
Public Health School Nurse. School nurses provide skilled nursing services to the students of a New Hanover County schools. Duties include identification of and planning for students with acute and/or chronic health care needs, provision of emergency care, medication administration, screening/referral/follow-up, prevention and control of communicable disease, provide health promotion and counseling, teach health related classes, assist with strategies to improve the school health program, and maintenance of school health records.

New Hanover County school health nurses provide services to over 26,000 students in 45 New Hanover County schools ranging from pre-K through age 21 in a variety of settings. Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; this is a casual part time position. The selected candidate will work no more than 20 hours per week.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Salary Information: The hiring range for this position starts at
$28.4462/Hour. Salary is negotiable and will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licenses/Certifications

Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
- Eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in North Carolina.
- Nurses without a Bachelor of Science in Nursing must complete the North Carolina Credentialed Public Health Nurse course within one (1) year of employment.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) by the American Heart Association.
- Positions assigned to school health require National School Nurse certification within three (3) years of employment.
