Primary Purpose of Position:
NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Group Fitness Instructor. Wellness and Recreation is looking for a dynamic, student-focused leader to plan, prepare, and lead engaging and safe MindBody and custom fitness classes for the NC State community.

This is a temporary, part-time position starting June 23, 2025, and ending May 23, 2026. This position reports to the Coordinator, Fitness.


  • Instruction & Program Delivery:

    • Plan, prepare and instruct safe and effective MindBody fitness classes.
    • Lead engaging Custom Fitness Experience Classes for the broader NC State community.
    • Provide fun and motivational instruction and education on the benefits of healthy living through mindful movement.




  • Knowledge & Safety:

    • Maintain a strong understanding of general fitness, wellness, anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology as it relates to human movement.
    • Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation and Area Specific policies and guidelines.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and implementation of the Emergency Action Plan.



  • Operations & Maintenance:

    • Assist with maintaining stereo, music, and equipment inventories.
    • Contribute to a clean and safe environment by ensuring the upkeep of storage and the sanitization of equipment.



  • Professional Development & Conduct:

    • Attend required trainings to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Develop positive and professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
    • Uphold and exceed the ethical, critical thinking, teamwork, initiative, and professionalism expectations of Wellness and Recreation.



  • Other Assigned Duties:
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the department.

Minimum Experience/Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience leading Fitness classes in a studio setting

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Current RYT 200-hour (or higher) Yoga certification.
  • Preferred experience in leading Mindbody-specific classes in a studio setting.


Required License or Certification

  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain by date of hire
  • Current nationally accredited Fitness Instructor Certification (i.e. ACE GFI, RYT200)

Valid NC Driver's License required? No
