Position Summary: Oasys is seeking a Sr. System Administrator to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC)-Information Systems Division (ISD). The Senior System Administrator manages the day-to-day performance, security, and availability of hybrid enterprise systems supporting aviation logistics, maintenance, and readiness. The Sr. System Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining the secure and optimal performance of Windows, Linux (RHEL), and virtualized environments. This role includes monitoring and remediation of vulnerabilities, configuration management, incident resolution, and supporting continuous operations within a DevSecOps environment. Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee configuration, operation, and optimization of Windows, RHEL, and virtualized systems (VMware/Hyper-V/Kubernetes) across staging, development, and production environments.
- Lead security remediation efforts in accordance with Tenable scan results, STIG, NIST 800-53, and DHS 4300A requirements.
- Implement and maintain secure system configurations, including firewalls, SELinux, SSH hardening, and multi-factor authentication.
- Design and manage virtualization platforms, ensuring resource efficiency, scalability, and high availability.
- Administer and support web applications deployed on IIS and Apache servers, ensuring optimal configuration, performance, and security.
- Automate routine administration tasks using scripting tools (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) and enforce standardized system builds via configuration management tools.
- Collaborate in Agile DevSecOps environments using Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, and Kubernetes to support cross-functional delivery and change management.
- Conduct system capacity analysis, performance tuning, and preventive maintenance for sustained uptime.
- Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including configurations, change management logs, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
- Provide Tier III escalation support, troubleshoot complex system issues, and coordinate with cybersecurity, development, and engineering teams to resolve incidents.
- Participate in audits, security assessments, and Authority to Operate (ATO) sustainment activities.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Expert-level administration of Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server platforms in federal or enterprise environments.
- Experience managing virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes) and supporting hybrid infrastructure (on-prem/cloud).
- Proven track record of resolving system vulnerabilities, applying STIGs, and implementing security baselines.
- Proficiency with web server configuration and troubleshooting (IIS and Apache).
- Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and configuration management.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps principles, Agile methodologies, and ITSM practices.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Five (5) years of directly relevant experience may substitute for two (2) years of formal education.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience administering Linux, Windows, VMware, and SAS environments.
- Minimum of five (5) years of performing security remediation to systems with vulnerabilities based on security scans.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an Agile DevSecOps software and engineering environment and Methodologies.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with managing, configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting web applications in IIS and Apache web servers.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with installing, configuring, and maintenance of RHEL servers.
- Minimum of two (2) years of designing, building, and implementing application servers to support business environment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience of server installation and upgrade with GOTS and COTS software.
- Experience supporting federal government systems, particularly within DHS or DoD environments, is strongly preferred.
Clearance:
- U.S. citizenship required
- Must have or be eligible to obtain a Position of Public Trust or DoD Secret Clearance.
Certification Requirement
- CompTIA Security+
- Additional certifications (Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), ITIL Foundation, or Network+) are a plus.
Work Location:
- Elizabeth City, NC - On-Site
- North Carolina Region - Must be available to work onsite two to three days a week.
