Electronic Technician

Primarily performs installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and modification of critical low-voltage electronic systems and associated wiring throughout the healthcare campus. Focuses on ensuring the reliability and compliance of systems essential for life safety, patient care communications, and security within the hospital environment. Ability to work rotating shift when needed.

Ability to:



  • Troubleshoot electronic and low-voltage system issues down to the component or wiring level.
  • Use specialized test equipment effectively (e.g., multimeter, cable continuity/certification testers, tone generator, fiber optic testers, laptop with diagnostic software).
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, riser diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals for low-voltage systems.
  • Terminate and test copper and fiber optic cabling proficiently.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical staff, clinical personnel, and management.
  • Coordinate and work collaboratively with other trades and departments.
  • Maintain accurate records for compliance purposes.
  • Work safely in various environments, including patient care areas, confined spaces, and at heights.


Education and Experience:



  • Minimum 3 years' experience installing, maintaining, and repairing electronic low-voltage systems (such as Fire Alarm, Nurse Call, Security, Structured Cabling) preferably in a healthcare or similar regulated commercial setting.
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology or related field, OR equivalent documented training (e.g., Military technical training, accredited trade school program) is highly preferred.


Required Licenses and Certification:



  • High school diploma/GED or higher education. Valid driver's license
  • Certification Secure 900


Preferred:



  • NICET Certification (Level I or II) in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Certifications related to Nurse Call systems (e.g., Rauland, Hill-Rom, Ascom).
  • Certifications related to Access Control / Security Systems (e.g., Secure 9000, Lenel, Software House, Genetec, Axis).
  • Manufacturer-specific training/certifications on systems utilized within the facility.
  • Principles of electronics, digital and analog circuits, and low-voltage power systems.
  • Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques for various low-voltage systems (Fire Alarm, Nurse Call, Security, Infant abduction systems, CCTV, C-Cure9000,PA systems, TransVac, Data Cabling, etc.).
  • Appropriate safety practices (OSHA), including working with ladders, lifts, and understanding potential electrical hazards associated with low-voltage circuits.
  • Hospital infection control procedures (ICRA).
