STATUS: FT (40hrs/wk)

Camp Ponderosa is a Christian camp owned and operated by The Salvation Army. Our mission is to create a mountaintop sanctuary where a deep sense of belonging is found and nurtured by loving service and the joyful experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Graduate or GED recipient
  • 1-3 years of maintenance experience
  • Some working knowledge or willingness to learn in the fields of electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and general maintenance.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to accomplish a variety of physical tasks on a daily basis.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Current Arizona Driver's License


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Be instrumental in fulfilling the mission statement of Camp Ponderosa and The Salvation Army, avoiding actions that are detrimental to the mission.
  • Participate in building & vehicle maintenance as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Camp Director.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward campers, guests and coworkers, especially during times of frustration.
  • Maintain an attitude of service towards guests and campers
  • Maintain a healthy line of communication with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Assess buildings while fulfilling assignments, reporting any facilities that are substandard or broken.
  • Participate in building walkthroughs to ensure full functionality and aesthetic before group arrival.
  • Check for burned-out bulbs and replace them with a proper bulb after reporting to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist with the upkeep, maintenance, and painting of facilities.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of vehicles when assigned.
  • Under the instruction of the Facilities Manager, assist in maintaining all equipment in a safe, orderly manner. Follow ALL safety instructions as per the owner's manual or the supervisor's instructions.
  • Maintain oil and function of gas-powered equipment as assigned by Facilities Manager.
  • Keep all lawn mowers clean of debris and free of grass and other obstructions.
  • Clean and service all hand equipment after each use and put it in its proper place
  • Maintain grounds by mowing, trimming, and irrigation as instructed.
  • Keep all Staff and Campers away from the cutting work area and safe from flying debris from lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and other lawn equipment.
  • Empty trash barrels daily around program areas and Meadow Road.
  • Keep the shop orderly and clean at all times.
  • Watch for full trash cans while fulfilling assignments, be prepared to empty and replace them as needed.
  • Participate in cleaning assignments as assigned only when absolutely needed to meet camp deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Camp Director.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be willing and able to climb step ladders from 4' to 12' in height unassisted, 16' step ladder and up with assistance, and commercial grade extension ladders of varying heights with assistance as reasonable. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
