The Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning is housed in the Teaching and Learning Center, which also contains the Office of Career Readiness and Community Engagement, the Office of Learning Resources, and the Writing Center/ ESL Services.
Primary Description of Work
Internal Posting - UNCSA Employees Only (Including Temporary Employees)
The Director of the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning plays a key role in advancing excellence in teaching and learning by providing professional development opportunities, facilitating faculty engagement, and supporting innovative pedagogical initiatives. This position collaborates with faculty across disciplines to enhance student learning experiences and foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching.
Work Schedule and hours
20 Hours per week
Flexible based on faculty engagement
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Professional Development: Design and deliver faculty development workshops, programs, and resources that support effective teaching practices. (30%)


  • Faculty Enrichment Day: Plan and execute this annual event, organizing concurrent faculty-led sessions that promote teaching innovation and professional growth.

  • Learning Communities: Facilitate faculty learning groups, including book studies and topic-based discussions, to encourage collaboration and pedagogical exploration.


Midterm Course Assessments: Conduct student feedback sessions to provide faculty with formative insights for course improvement. (30%)
Faculty Consultations: Offer one-on-one and small-group consultations to support faculty in addressing teaching challenges and implementing evidence-based strategies. (20%)
Excellence in Teaching Awards: Coordinate the annual awards process, including gathering and organizing nominations and facilitating the work of the selection committee. (10%)
Grant Support and Coordination: Manage teaching and learning-related grants, including a teaching innovation grant and scholarships for faculty to attend conferences and professional development opportunities. (10%)
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate, Terminal Master's degree, or Master's degree in Education or related field and five (5) years of appropriate demonstrated professional experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in a secondary or postsecondary setting
  • Experience working with faculty development programs and activities
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and education theories
  • Expertise in integrating technology and effective pedagogical techniques into a wide variety of instructional situations
  • Experience in delivering professional presentations in a variety of settings
  • Strong understanding of contemporary student learning processes and familiarity with national trends and issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/ interpersonal skills
