The Accounting Specialist I role will compile financial data and analyze member information in various systems to aid more senior specialists in preparation of various types of reporting. This role will assist in handling inquiries received, reconciliation of information, collections of payments, and recording of financial information. This role will require an understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles, as well as good practice required for analyzing transactions such as: reconciliations, authorization, balancing, collections, enrollment/coverage, monthly/quarterly entries and auditing.

BCBSNE is happy to offer four work designations for our Omaha area employees: 100% in-office, Hybrid options, and 100% remote. If choosing to work remote, this role can be located in one of the following states: Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Texas.

What you'll do:

  • Perform analysis between enrollment, billing, and claims systems to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of processing enrollment and billing activities within any regulations or policies established for the specific line of business.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with organizational guidelines and procedures, and federal and state regulations.
  • Initiate process improvements by analysis of the systems, processes, and cross functional work groups
  • Assist with reconciliations, understanding transactions in the system.
  • Handle coverage and billing related questions from internal and external requests.
  • Interact with internal departments cross-functionally and outside agencies to resolve issues.
  • Assists with monthly closing activities, audit requests and annual reporting.
  • Assist with any testing or implementation of updates with systems
  • Create and maintain desk level

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • One or more (1+) years' experience in Finance, Customer Service, Enrollment and Billing.
  • Minimum one (1+) year experience in the health care industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to multi-task is essential.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and work under deadlines. Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and ten-key efficiently; ability to quickly adapt to new systems.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment, self-starter, and quick learner.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.

The ability to meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments.

The ability to work well in a team environment and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers.
