Job Summary

This position is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and implementing speech-language therapy services to homecare patients. This specialist keeps abreast of current knowledge in the field, including in the home care environment, and shares this information with the health care community. This therapist carries qualifications that are professionally recognized as a specialist in the field.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • California Licensed Speech Pathologist.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR .
  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Master's degree in speech pathology, communication sciences and disorders, or related fields from an accredited educational institution.
  • Three or more years in the practice of speech-language pathology.
  • Demonstrates advanced operational/specialist skills and knowledge in speech-language pathology as identified by Speech Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers.
  • Demonstrates excellent clinical judgment skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with hospital staff in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Organizational and developmental skills.
  • Tact and diplomacy skills; ability to provide and accept guidance and criticism.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Experience successfully working in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a Speech Language Pathologist in a medical center/hospital setting.

Department Overview

Home Care Services is made up of three primary programs: Hospice (inpatient and home care), Home Health, and Home-Based Palliative Care. This position is part of the Home Health and Hospice Programs.

Department Specific Job Scope

The primary purpose of speech-language pathology is to provide intervention and support services for children and adults diagnosed with speech and language disorders; auditory processing disorders; swallowing disorders; and providing services to modify or enhance communication performance designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
