Job Description

At IPS, you'll apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to life sciences. We are actively seeking an Executive Director, Regional Business Development to lead our continued Northeastern regional growth efforts based out of our Somerset, NJ office.

This role will report directly to the Managing Director of America's Operations and will encompass two primary responsibilities. The first is to secure commercial opportunities through strategic business development within their assigned region, and the second is to provide regional leadership for their assigned region.

You will collaborate with the IPS management teams, consisting of all region's business development leads, account/client managers, and executive leadership to lead business development within their assigned region including qualifying and developing leads, client management with selected clients, developing sales plans for their region, coordinating proposal efforts, coordinating and monitoring ongoing contacts between core service staff and prospects/clients, general marketing/sales activities and reporting. Additionally, you will be responsible for facilitating employee engagement, regional communications, and problem-solving, managing office operations, and helping maintain IPS' brand regionally.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages relationships with all clients within the region (this includes advancing these accounts globally).
  • Coordinates business development activities with the IPS management team.
  • Establishes contact with potential clients and obtains the client's history in an effort to develop a client profile.
  • Assists in developing marketing contact lists for operating offices that are consistent with the firm marketing plan and have a significant potential for future work.
  • Assists the IPS Management Team in developing yearly sales plans and systems for those monitoring plans.
  • Manages, coordinates, and monitors the business development activity of the region's core service staff.
  • Coordinates proposal efforts; including assisting with the go/no-go decision, development of the proposal team, assigning proposal tasks, proposal review, and proposal debriefings.
  • Prepares proposal activity log and weekly business development summaries for distribution.
  • Coordinates submittals to prospects of all information pertaining to the firm and its capabilities.
  • Performs market research in designated geographic areas to ascertain current and future market trends.
  • Informs IPS commercial Management Team about market trends, business development activity, proposal activity, potential prospects, new projects, and awards.
  • Creates a professional atmosphere in the regional office.
  • Looks after the well-being of the regional office and is responsible for all regional office management.
  • Supports the development of regional financial targets and manages those targets in the Region.
  • Ensures that all employees within the Region are properly managed, trained, and in compliance with policy and regulations.
  • Instills a positive work environment and facilitates effective staff development efforts.
  • Manages and maintains an administration staff that provides needed support while minimizing overhead. Controls administrative costs.
  • Manages local IT support and maintains adequate offices and workspace.
  • Makes presentations to prospective clients and leads presentations for proposals and projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business with relevant industry experience.
  • 15+ years of experience within the engineering and construction AEC industry, at least 10 of which have been in a leadership capacity consisting of oversight of strategic planning, sales cycle management, service delivery, and management of resources.
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others. Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, superior communication skills, team building, and strong work ethic. Must be able to build rapport with department staff
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.
