Position Summary

Our team works on local and international studies in neuroinfectious diseases, focusing on the ability to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes or individuals with neurological infections and neuroinflammatory conditions.

Responsibilities

The candidate will report to the Principal Investigator (PI) and will be responsible for subject recruitment and the conduct of retrospective and prospective clinical studies. The research assistant will work with a multidisciplinary team on studies. Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with existing policies and procedures at Columbia University, the IRB, and the CTSA that relate to clinical research.




  • Coordination of retrospective and prospective clinical research studies, including patient recruitment, clinical database development, and daily review of medical charts for patients enrolled.



  • The research assistant will be involved in maintaining and updating IRBs and other regulatory aspects of studies, study recruitment and enrollment, as well as data collection and entry.



  • Participation in pre-study, initiation, monitoring, and close-out visits with research team members.



  • Implementation of clinical research studies from initiation, including assistance with the development of standard operating procedures and case report forms with research team members.



  • Recruitment and coordination of the participants, covering informed consent, screening, and inclusion of the subjects, adhering to safety and compliance issues.



  • Coordination and management of clinical research study activities, including communication with sponsors and monitors, visit coordination, sample acquisition, and processing.



  • Reporting and documentation of protocol deviations and exemptions, as well as development and implementation of corrective action plans for review by the Principal Investigator as needed.



  • Data collection and management, collection of source documents, registration, and management of adverse events, filing and archiving, managing monitoring visits, and managing queries.



  • Contributing to academic presentations at meetings and manuscripts with authorship.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • At least 3 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience in clinical research.

  • Basic statistical analysis training to support data analysis in collaboration with a statistician.



  • Experience with coding and using REDCap and other data entry platforms for clinical research.




Other Requirements



  • The candidate should be highly motivated, interested in neuroinfectious diseases, work in underserved populations, community and global health, have excellent interpersonal skills and an interest in academic research
  • Ability to work across diverse team members, in a collaborative and respectful team environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Strong scientific writing skills with experience in publishing scientific manuscripts
