Location site: Salem Health OrthopedicsDepartment: SHMG OrthopedicsPosition type: Full time (40 hours)Start time: Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. Your role with us: As a Medical Assistant with Salem Health, you will call upon your excellent interpersonal skills, clinical knowledge and critical thinking abilities to identify the nature and urgency of our patient's health care needs.What you'll do:Assesses patients and alerts physicians to potential life-threatening situations.Recognizes critical diagnostic data and alerts the physician in a timely fashion. Recognizes changes in patient condition and reports appropriately.Determines priorities of care and intervenes in those cases falling outside the parameters of normal clinic protocol (e.g. isolating and obtaining physician for suspicious rashes, prioritizing patients potentially requiring transfer to a higher level of care.Anticipates the need for selected diagnostic tests and initiates testing according to protocols. Recognizes variations in patient flow, and adjusts work effort to reflect the needs of the department.Provides clear discharge instructions to each patient, includes family members when available, ensures appropriate referrals for follow-up care, and offers relevant community resource information.Performs waived laboratory testing procedures according to protocols; demonstrates continued competency in patient testing, quality control and proficiency testing.Demonstrates adequate knowledge and expertise with regard to medication safety/security and administration within scope of practice and appropriate clinic protocols. Demonstrates competency in all areas of clinical care encompassed within the clinic setting. Background/experience: National certification from NCCT, NHA, AMT, AAMA or equivalent requiredCurrent BLS certification required upon hire.Experience in either an urgent care, family practice or clinic specialty office preferred.
