Job Description Summary:

We are looking for a passionate and organized Virtual Reality Deployment Intern to support the tactical rollout of VR headsets to organizations and individuals participating in Unified Work programming. In this role, you will ensure devices are distributed efficiently, users receive accessible training, and helpdesk support is available to address any technical needs. Your work will directly support people with disabilities in building confidence, skills, and success in the workforce.

Essential Functions:



  • VR Headset Distribution:

    • Coordinate logistics for the packaging, shipping, and tracking of VR devices to participants.
    • Maintain and update inventory records, ensuring accurate documentation.
    • Work with internal teams and partner organizations to streamline distribution.
    • Lead or assist in setting up and running VR experience labs at various events, including the Special Olympics Summer Games on June 21, 2025


  • Accessible Tech Support:

    • Provide friendly and responsive Tier 1 support to users, including individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and support staff.
    • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to VR headsets.
    • Maintain a log of common issues and solutions to improve support efficiency.
    • Follow up periodically with customers to check in and offer support.


  • Inclusive Training & Onboarding:

    • Assist in delivering in person and virtual training sessions tailored for users of varying abilities.
    • Create accessible guides (visual, audio, and written formats) to help users confidently set up and use VR devices.
    • Offer live virtual walkthroughs or support calls as needed.
    • User-Centered Improvement:
    • Collect feedback from participants and support staff to identify areas of improvement.
    • Collaborate with the team to refine training and support materials based on real user experiences.
    • Stay informed on best practices in accessible tech and inclusive education.


  • Maintain highest levels of ethics and confidentiality.
  • Functions effectively in a fast paced, diverse, team environment.
  • Implements continuous improvement programs using problem resolution and analysis skills.
  • Adheres to all current organizational policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:



  • Pursuing a degree or training in IT, Education Technology, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Passion for technology, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a supportive, empathetic approach to user interaction.
  • Comfortable using tools like Zoom, Microsoft Office, and collaborative platforms.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Innovative spirit - you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the VR program by creating systems to make the program sustainable.
  • Have the ability to work within a team and on a self-directed basis.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background and Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Verified eligibility for employment in the United States.


Preferred Experience:



  • Familiarity with VR devices (e.g., Meta Quest) or immersive tech platforms.
  • Experience working with or supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to create user-friendly materials such as how-to guides or video tutorials.


Other:



  • Hours and Schedule: Approximately 20 - 30 hours per week for the duration of the program, with most hours being between 8am-4pm. Some weekends and evenings required.
  • Travel: Requires driving within Twin Cities and surrounding areas with personal vehicle up to 50% of time and potential for traveling up north or out of state up to 25%.
  • Academic Credit: We are happy to work with your college or university to provide documentation or supervision needed to qualify for academic credit.
  • Career Development: Successful interns will gain hands-on experience with immersive technology, accessibility best practices, and inclusive workforce development. Outstanding interns may be considered for future part-time or full-time roles within Unified Work or partner organizations.
  • The pay range for this role is $20 - $25 DOQ.
  • The duration for this internship is 60 - 90 days with the possibility of an extension.
  • This role qualifies for hybrid work, but must be in the office at least 3 days a week.
