(*in collaboration with AbbVie) About the Role: This position plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining highly available and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions primarily on Amazon Web Services (AWS) but also in GCP and Azure. Defines and leads the technical direction, strategy, and execution of cloud architecture while mentoring and guiding a team of engineers. Bridges the gap between on-premises infrastructure, scale-out storage systems, and scientific computing, ensuring seamless integration and optimization across hybrid environments. Operates as the most senior engineering resources in delivering cloud native, scale out storage, and scientific computing resources in the IT organization, delivering thought leadership, design thinking, and technical direction.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
Cloud Architecture Design: Develop robust, scalable, and secure cloud architecture solutions aligned with business objectives. Drive the design and implementation of AWS infrastructure to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery while integrating with on-premises systems. Autonomously lead engineering efforts for cloud architecture while ensuring security, quality, consistency, and scalability Spearhead the design and implementation of truly cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS's serverless computing ecosystem, including Lambda functions, Amazon Bedrock, API Gateway, and container services (ECS/EKS). Design, deploy, and optimize solutions on AWS, leveraging specialized compute instances (e.g., GPU, FPGA) and parallel processing frameworks to meet compute-intensive workload requirements. Organize and lead user group discussions, incorporating user feedback into designs Scale-Out Storage Systems: Architect, design, develop, and manage scalable storage solutions on AWS (e.g., S3, EBS, EFS) and on-premises, utilizing distributed file systems and object storage technologies to efficiently handle large volumes of data. Identify and deliver scalable design patterns that provide best in class storage services in support of scientific efforts. Operate as a subject matter expert in scientific computing storage services, incorporating user feedback and domain specific requirements into designs Infrastructure Automation: Provide technical and thought leadership for automation efforts using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform) for both cloud and on-premises environments to ensure efficient deployment and management. Establish and manage best in class services to deliver self-service infrastructure to the organization Security, Compliance, and Performance Optimization: Integrate security best practices into the architecture, manage access controls, maintain compliance standards, and optimize system performance for both cloud and on-premises infrastructure Team Leadership and Collaboration: Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to engineers. Collaborate cross-functionally to translate requirements into scalable cloud solutions. Operate as a subject matter expert across disciplines within the Infrastructure Team Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on AWS services, trends, and best practices. Propose and implement improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and performance across hybrid environments Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 8+ years of infrastructure engineering experience with 4+ years focused on AWS OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 6+ years of experience as listed above Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or equivalent Understands key business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish work Has strong understanding of processes, procedures and systems used to accomplish the work and recognizes downstream impact on other functional areas Proficient with tools and processes that support work conducted by functional area Ability to work as part of a team; may train lower levels Strong communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills Detail oriented yet can see broader picture for department Ability to meet multiple deadlines, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency Strong project management skill Extensive AWS experience with a wide range of services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, Lambda) Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform) for automation Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure management and integration Hands-on experience with scalable storage systems on AWS and on-premise environments Familiarity with scientific computing workloads and supporting related applications Knowledge of on-premise infrastructure management, including data centers and virtualization technologies Security best practices implementation and compliance adherence across hybrid environments Leadership, communication, and collaboration skills for effective team management and stakeholder engagement

We are looking for the best candidate for the job and encourage you to apply even if your experience or qualifications don't line up to exactly what we have outlined in the job description. _ The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $154,900.00-$224,400.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
