About the Role

Canon USA in Irvine, CA is currently seeking a Patent Counsel (Counsel, Patent). This position will be responsible for supporting Canon USA's Intellectual Property Division's various patent prosecution activities.

The position can be based in either Irvine, CA or Melville, NY.

This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.


Your Impact

- Review, prepare, and file patent applications
- Provide strategies, and respond to Actions from the US Patent Office
- Review invention disclosures and conduct and/or review patentability searches
- Review 3rd party patents as needed
- Participate in IP litigation matters as needed
- Review work of junior IP Division members as needed
- Train junior IP Division members as needed


About You: The Skills & Expertise You Bring

- Requires a Juris Doctor, admission to a state bar (preferably California or New York) admission to the USPTO bar, and a minimum of 5-8 years of related experience

We are providing the anticipated salary range for this role: $126,330 - $189,180 annually
