We're hiring a talented Principal Software Engineer to help us build a world class developer platform to fuel the Snowflake Data Cloud. As an engineering leader in the ES (Engineering Systems) team, you will play a central role in delivering the next generation of tools used by our engineers to develop our flagship product. Together with industry-wide experts in distributed systems, cross-cloud development and engineering excellence, you will evolve our developer infrastructure and tooling to be secure, elastic, large-scale, and highly performant with simplicity at its core.

OUR IDEAL PRINCIPAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER WILL HAVE:
  • Strong passion for making developers highly productive.

  • 15+ years industry experience developing and maintaining world-scale infrastructure and distributed systems.

  • Fluency in Java, C++, Python or Go.

  • Expertise in:

    • Kubernetes.

    • Multi-tenant systems, with focus on reliability, performance, isolation and security.

    • Authoring roadmap documents, project plans and RCAs.

  • A track record of technical execution and technical leadership.

  • A passion for operational excellence, and willingness to hold yourself and others to a high operational bar.

  • A track record for mentoring and guiding senior and staff engineers; fostering best practices in coding, testing, and automation.

  • A strategic mindset and strong sense of what to prioritize for maximum impact.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Outstanding communicator, both written and verbal skills

  • Ability to work on-site at our San Mateo, CA or Bellevue, WA offices.

BONUS POINTS FOR EXPERIENCE WITH ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:
  • Artifacts services (Nexus, Artifactory)

  • Workflow execution systems (Jenkins, Argo)

  • Supporting large monorepo codebases

  • Enterprise-scale build systems

  • Test frameworks and related tool design

The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:

  • The estimated base salary range for this role is $243,000 - $346,500.
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Snowflake's bonus and equity plan.

The successful candidate's starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location. This role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; flexible spending & health savings account; at least 12 paid holidays; paid time off; parental leave; employee assistance program; and other company benefits.
