The Dai laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University is seeking applications for a postdoctoral associate position. We are recruiting a motivated individual to contribute to the development of the new methodology of cellular tomography and cryo-focused ion beam milling for multiple collaborative projects. Research areas of primary interest include protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and the structure and dynamics of membrane proteins. The lab is hosted in the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, co-located with the RCSB Protein Data Bank. In addition to the Rutgers Cryo-electron Microscopy and Nanoimaging Facility, core facilities housed within the Institute include protein NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and hardware for high-performance computing. Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Structural Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, or a related area.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Candidate should be proficient in establishing and maintaining primary neuronal cultures and other mammalian cell cultures, generation of recombinant DNA constructs, and performing biochemical assays.
* Good communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, macOS system, and basic knowledge of Linux command line.
* Working experience with bioimaging is preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Major equipment includes cryo-electron microscope, correlative light and electron microscope, and cryo-focused ion beam.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The employee will be working in general cell biology laboratory settings. This position will require handling liquid nitrogen and ethane and lifting up to 30 pounds.
