Job Description

The Staff Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence and innovation within the engineering team. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in engineering design, project management, and cross-functional collaboration. The Staff Engineer will be recognized as a technical expert and will mentor other engineers while leading complex projects that align with Danfoss's strategic objectives.

Job Responsibilities



    • Lead the design of hydrostatic piston pumps and motors, optimizing for performance, efficiency, durability and cost in demanding mobile applications.
    • Design, support, modify and maintain products that meet customer needs while navigating constraints in design, labor, suppliers and manufacturing capacity and capability.
    • Apply design and development experience to work across functions and sites to meet customer needs.
    • Drive advancements in hydrostatic pump and motor design, incorporating new materials, manufacturing techniques, and technologies to enhance product competitiveness.
    • Ensure product reliability through theory, calculation and testing. Perform complex product analysis, and validation, addressing performance and reliability challenges.
    • Provide expert-level support for product lifecycle management, including troubleshooting, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Mentor and work closely with product engineers and senior product engineers, and partner with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless quality product delivery.
    • Act as change agent with strong credibility and influence in the organization.
    • Define best practices, establish design standards, and contribute to the strategic roadmap for hydraulic product development.
    • Manage a complex Engineering projects and drive excellence in using design methodologies, and engineering tools to improve cost, reliability, quality and performance.
    • Lead or participate in core competency teams (C-cubed teams). Provides technical training and knowledge sharing. Lead Design reviews and D-FMEA's.
    • Understand how the systems hydrostatic pumps work within and products they work with in those



Background & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in solving hydraulic pump and motor design challenges with demonstrated examples of solving customer, manufacturing, design, test and/or reliability issues.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic system design, fluid dynamics, and machine design including materials, strength, fatigue, and tribology.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools (e.g., NX, ANSYS, MATLAB).
  • Experience with reliability engineering, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes for machined components and casting processes.
  • Proven ability to lead global complex projects and mentor engineers, demonstrating strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on results and product performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across global teams and with customers. Be able to guide and direct customers in difficult situations.
  • Experience in hydrostatic pump and motor operations is a must.
  • Experience in pump and motor manufacturing, controls, software and electronics.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and experience in working with suppliers.
  • Significant experience developing and implementing strategies for improved designs to improve the customer experience
  • Experience in building cross functional relationships, across different organizational levels and in multi-cultural settings.
