Taft is seeking a Lead Payroll Staff Accountant to support our team in Taft's Indianapolis office.

We are seeking a Lead Payroll Staff Accountant with 3-4 years of payroll experience to support our team in our Indianapolis office. Responsible for assisting in the creation of accurate payroll and budget records for the payroll department within the organization. All Taft employees operate under a "Client First" philosophy - in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Prepares accounting records and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the department.
  • Maintains the general ledger and completes the payroll department's month end balance sheet reconciliation process; including completion of entries, account monitoring and research and correction of account discrepancies.
  • Completion of bank statement reconciliations.
  • Assists with the payroll budget creation and monthly budget to actual reporting.
  • Ability to calculate complex attorney payments.
  • Responsible for special projects and other departmental duties as assigned.
  • Back up payroll team with compiling and entering data, submitting completed bi-weekly (non-exempt) and semi-monthly (exempt) payroll files via payroll software ADP and request funding for total payroll liability through the accounting department.
  • Compile internal management reports from payroll system software (ADP).
  • Assist, lead or back up others in various audits such as 401k, Workers Compensation, and Payroll Tax.


Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, Interpersonal and Other Requirements



  • Practical use and knowledge of accounting and Microsoft Office products.
  • Previous work with commission calculations.
  • Working knowledge of deductions, payments and filing for benefits and tax.
  • Basic accounting and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
  • Detail Oriented and the ability to assimilate large amounts of data.
  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Paycor, Ultipro, etc. ADP Time and Attendance and Work Force Now a plus.
  • Regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in high-demand situations to meet deadlines.


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
