Office of Faculty Affairs and Career Development (OFACD)

The University of New Mexico's School of Medicine (SOM) invites applications for a Faculty Affairs & Services Consultant to join the Office of Faculty Affairs and Career Development (OFACD). We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented, organized, and customer service-driven professional with strong attention to detail to support and enhance faculty operations and success at the School of Medicine.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Faculty Affairs & Services Consultant provides counsel, advice, and support to faculty, staff, administrators, and leadership within the Health Sciences Center (HSC) and SOM. This position is responsible for interpreting and advising on UNM and HSC policies, procedures, and best practices across all areas of faculty affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Department Administrators and Chairs from 20 School of Medicine departments to support all faculty human resources functions
  • Processes faculty terminations, ensure accurate payroll coordination, and maintain compliance with institutional policies
  • Reviews and processes all faculty leave such as FMLA, Extended Sick Leave, Parental Leave, Leave Without Pay and Sabbaticals
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in sensitive, confidential matters
  • Facilitate staff onboarding and training workshops to include faculty QuickStart orientation
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure policy compliance
  • Commit to supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable academic environment

This position serves as a subject matter expert on faculty HR matters, ensuring compliance, responding to inquiries, and communicating updates to policies and procedures.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in entering sensitive and confidential HR data into a payroll system in accordance to human resources processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Experience building relationships with stakeholders regarding Human Resource functions
  • Managing contract updates, including changes to FTE, salary, incentives, administrative titles, and/or secondary appointments
  • Strong knowledge of human resources policies, employment law, including a strong understanding of FLSA regulations, leave management and performance management
  • Experience with FMLA, Parental Leave, Leave Without Pay
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Smartsheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience in faculty affairs or Human Resources
  • Experience working in a fast-paced academic/health or human resources environment
