As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), you will assist our clinics by processing and analyzing ordered specimens so our providers can properly diagnose and treat oncology and hematology conditions.


Responsibilities

Here's what might happen on a typical day...

Working in our central lab, you will perform a wide range of medical oncology lab responsibilities including accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures for moderate and high complexity laboratory tests.

Your teamwork mindset proves vital in working with and maintaining healthy working relationships with other lab and practice staff as you communicate with many different positions and levels of the practice. Experiences that matter...

  • Your medical laboratory knowledge provides you the skills needed to perform specimen analysis of all chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens.
  • Understanding the importance of following laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and reporting and following laboratory policies for testing and maintaining equipment is something you take very seriously.
  • Your attention to detail allows you to properly document patient results in a timely manner and maintain quality assurance documentation including all test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, checklists, etc.
  • While your main duties are completed within the central lab, your flexibility allows you to step in to help with performing phlebotomy and collecting patient specimens as needed.
  • Maintaining adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and making sure those supplies are viable for use is a duty you recognize as important to the overall efficiency of the TCS lab.

Your go-getter work ethic will have you ready to jump in and help out with any additional tasks.


Qualifications

For your safety, keep this in mind:

  • This position can require standing or sitting for extended periods of time depending on the function of the position being completed.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 40 pounds or less.
  • You will need manual dexterity, proper hand-eye coordination, clear color perception and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

We feel this position requires these basics:

  • Your associates degree in medical technology or laboratory science is a requirement of this position.
  • While not required, AMT, ASCP or equivalent is highly preferred. However, a current state licensure is required.
  • Lastly, we feel that you will be most successful with at least one year of prior medical laboratory experience preferably in oncology to provide you with the background needed for this position

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in medical technology or laboratory science. Current state license if required. AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred . Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years of experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands of this job typically require full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination in operation and manipulation of complex laboratory equipment. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time with the use hands to finger, handle, or feel and arms to reach or carry. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision, color perception and hearing to normal range. Requires legible handwriting. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in an office environment and requires significant interaction with management, staff and external auditors and clients. Work will require frequent travel by air or automobile, approximately 70% of workweek, on average.
