BlueHalo has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our ceramics and composites team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The position focuses on ceramics processing and characterization of a wide variety of transparent optical ceramics. The ideal candidate will have a background in functional ceramics, with an emphasis in processing science and characterization. Knowledge of optical/transparent materials preferred. The position requires working closely with government and contract researchers within the research team and with other research teams. We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual with a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.

Requirements:



  • Ph.D. (or to be completed in next 6 mos.) in Materials Science & Engineering, Ceramic Engineering or a related field
  • Expertise in ceramic powder processing and material characterization
  • Ability to learn and develop new approaches and techniques
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • This position will require a self-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to details
  • Adaptable to varying program objectives
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship


Desired Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of optical/transparent materials.
  • Characterization of materials transmissive capabilities
