Job Summary

This position provides comprehensive environmental support to Gibson Station and organizational sections, as necessary. Responsible for basic/moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines to achieve compliance with the organization's EHS standards and with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Works under general supervision. Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and soundness of technical judgment. Develops, implements and maintains programs, systems and procedures. Monitors and prevents EHS incidents and hazards. Investigates incidents, accidents, injuries, or complaints. Recommends improvements in basic processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the hazard potential. Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Develops and maintains knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies. May provide direction to less experienced personnel working on environmental programs.

Responsibilities

Serve as single-points-of-contact or coordinators to implement environmental activities that require broad knowledge and experience in order to provide compliance solutions to EHS issues. Supports basic work activities in order to comply with environmental laws, regulations and corporate requirements. Develops, implements, and maintains programs, systems, and procedures. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Participates in and supports EHS compliance and management system audits. Interacts with subject matter experts and customers to ensure consistent and thorough implementation of EHS programs, policies, and procedures. Monitors and prevents EHS incidents and hazards along with investigation of incidents, accidents, injuries or complaints. Develops and conducts section and department administrative and development functions including budgeting, special projects and assignments, employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs.

This position requires approximately 5-15% travel.

Basic / Required Qualifications

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Associate EHS Consultant

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, health, safety or other related field of study
  • In lieu of a Bachelors degree, a High School/GED and 4 years of directly related work experience

EHS Consultant

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, health, safety or other related field of study
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience
  • In lieu of a Bachelors degree and 3 years' experience, High School/GED and 7 years of directly related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
  • Qualified Environmental Professional
  • Broad knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in multimedia environmental (air, water, waste) areas.
  • Effective communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management.
  • With guidance can develop and implement systems and processes that comply with environmental laws and regulations, corporate policies, and goals.
  • Experience in negotiating with regulators at the state and/or federal level.
  • Experience in supporting EH&S compliance at multiple facilities/regions within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
Working Conditions
  • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Office environment with exposure to PC terminal and keyboard
  • Outside work during all seasons.
  • Occasional overtime, weekend, outage and callout work.
  • Field, work site, facility visitation required.
  • Vehicle travel involved to field location, typical travel safety factors
