Pay Grade: 16

Reports To: Sr. VP of Operations

Salary: $95000-$100000 / year

Other Forms of Compensation: Field Incentive Plan Bonus

Job Summary

Canteen has long established a vision for creating a brighter future, which includes achieving Compass Group's science-based targets of carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero by 2050 and supporting our clients on their sustainability journeys. This role will be specific to one of our largest national accounts, and will be based out of the client's location in & around Sunnyvale, CA.

The Sr. Manager of Sustainability will support a Fortune Top 10 customer in accelerating their sustainability initiatives, specifically around services Canteen provides to the client.

These responsibilities will include:

  • Reducing food loss/waste within the program
  • Eliminating single use plastics
  • Measuring & reducing the carbon footprint of our services at the client location
  • Engaging with vendors via our procurement team to reduce inbound waste & single-use materials
  • Innovating customer-facing service models, including equipment & technology, hospitality models
  • Other sustainability-centered projects, as assigned.
  • Key teams you will be working with: operations, warehousing, technical service, procurement, marketing & communications, other Compass Group sector partners, and client teams.
  • These associated projects and tasks will compose about 85% of your work time.
  • Support Canteen's overarching sustainability goals by sharing your client-level successes with our broader sustainability team and determine which solutions are scalable to other Canteen locations.
  • This may include working with our project management teams, operations teams, communications & marketing teams, and other Canteen-leadership groups.
  • This work will be 15% or less of your time but will help to ensure that your work is creating the broadest reach & impact possible.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or similar work experience
  • Has 5+ years in sustainability/ESG/CSR experience

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has been part of a client management team in previous role(s); ideally in a foodservice environment
  • Understands how to gain influence and affect change in a highly matrixed organization
  • Can communicate sustainability performance/progress clearly, articulately, and with clear calls to action to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Is familiar with the Google Workspace suite of products
  • Can manage multiple workstreams at once, prioritizing as needed, based on client need & impact
