Job Description

JOB TITLE: FURNACE TECH

DEPARTMENT: FOUNDRY

PAY LEVEL: H06

JOB FUNCTION:

The Foundry Furnace Tech must be able to perform all operations and operate equipment efficiently in performing duties.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to operate 3 Vacuum furnaces, equiax, D.S. and single crystal and be able to accurately record all necessary information.
  • Operate furnace to produce quality products within specified parameters.
  • Ram crucibles on all furnaces, change over on D.S. susceptors/coils and melt coils
  • Maintain furnaces by performing specified PM's and cleaning furnace chambers for optimum performance, load and unload preheat furnaces
  • Must be able to interpret and perform all duties according to PES's and OI, and special lot instructions. Knowledge of OI a must.
  • Record on a daily basis all work performed and the correct distribution of the work time identifying same by the operational codes
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors. Follow all safety rules
  • Suggestions for improving foundry functions and procedures.
  • Computer skills a plus.
  • Operate a forklift
  • Extreme heat involved.
  • Heavy lifting required (up to 30 pounds).
  • Must comply to 6S requirements.
  • Must understand and comply to departmental safety requirements.
  • Ability to train workers and encourage team skills.
  • Assist in decisions to operate furnace under questionable conditions.
  • Leader of preheat operator.
  • Must exhibit initiative to meet plant and departmental goals for cost, safety, quality, and delivery.

EDUCATION:

High school education.

EXPERIENCE:

One month Basic OJT.

Three months training technique.

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:

Normal initiative and ingenuity.

Maintain work area to meet department standards.

Verbal and written communication inter-department (maintenance, erg, etc.)

EFFORT:

Normal effort required. Must be able to lift 16-30 pounds approximately 5 times per hour. Hoist used for weights above 30 pounds.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Follow verbal instructions and communicate across shifts. Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.
