Pre-Doc Specialist - Robotics Institute

Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute is searching for a Pre-Doc Specialist to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

We are seeking creative and energetic Pre-Doc Specialist that under general direction of faculty and/or senior researcher, helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan. Participates in formulating research methods, recommending options and solutions. Works independently on collection of data, published works, database design and analysis of results. Prepares reports and drafts manuscripts.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops models to guide analysis and data manipulation. May use statistical packages or mathematical concepts to evaluate results.

  • Documents results. May present results to Research team or other partners.

  • May recommend additional research projects based on findings.

  • Researches, identifies and collects large-scale data sets or published works for research projects. Organizes data and accurately replicates identified research.

  • Works closely and collaboratively with faculty at CMU and other universities to write academic papers, present findings or other assigned projects.

  • Strong background in machine learning, with specialization in one or more of the following areas: computer vision, human behavior analysis, supervised/unsupervised/self-supervised learning, deep learning.

  • Research experience in multimodal human behavior analysis, affective computing and multimodal machine learning.

  • Very good presentation, communication, and organization skills.

Desired:

  • Publications in top machine learning and/or computer vision conferences and journals.

  • Research experience involving clinical applications (e.g., depression, pain).

  • Experience and/or enthusiasm for mentoring students.

  • Experience analyzing questionnaires and surveys.

  • Experience with grant proposal preparation and coordination

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 0-1 Years of Research Experience
