GENERAL FUNCTION: Top executive responsible for all commercial banking efforts aimed at minimizing charge offs from adversely graded/non-performing credit exposures , returning such exposures to performing status when and where appropriate, balancing strategic priorities, and supporting customer relationships, while minimizing the overall financial impact of such exposures to the Bank. Lead the Special Assets Group ("SAG") staff involved in managing problems relations as the associated credit risk to mitigating losses, securing collateral or equity positions, recovering loan principal or and interest, or restructuring specific credits. Leads the Strategic Credit Advisory team responsible for working with the line of business on structure for Watch and Criticized Assets still managed on the line. Responsible for all loan workout activities for multiple loan segments, including, but not limited to commercial and industrial (C&I), commercial real estate, small business and OREO. In addition, oversee and manage individuals for the Middle Office process. Utilizes strong credit policy knowledge to evaluate documentation requirements and work with the individuals to resolve credit policy questions and insure compliance with Commercial Credit Policy. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for restructuring loans, when borrowers do not meet the original conditions of the loan, and asset recovery to minimize the negative financial impact to the Bancorp in accordance with the risk appetite
- In conjunction with senior bank management, Risk Management, and lending relationship staff, is responsible for limiting losses on problem loans.
- Directs and controls the organization's activities in the area of loan workout, to include organizational design, selecting talent, developing policies and procedures, and meeting or exceeding annual SAG division goals and objectives.
- Implements objectives, policies, and plans for the SAG division.
- Coordinates activities with Risk Management, Credit, Commercial Sales, Business Banking, Legal, etc. to ensure all areas effectively support the SAG strategy and comply with organizational objectives.
- Provides a comprehensive understanding of the SAG division strategy and objectives by Group (Special/Unique, Custom, Core, Special Asset Resolution, Industry Vertical Regional SAG, Vertical SAG, SAG Credit, Asset Disposition Team and Strategic Credit Advisors) and by segment (C&I, CRE, Consumer etc.).
- Develops and executes communications to Senior Management in regions, Risk Management and Credit partners to ensure understanding of and compliance with the SAG strategy and process.
- Maintains an awareness of how changes in the regulatory, economic, credit market, and legal environment affect bank strategies and policies.
- Adjusts the overall SAG strategy in response to economic conditions and the regulatory and economic environment; communicates changes to all relevant partners.
- Prepare individuals to exercise leadership in the creation of new and more adaptive business cultures and in guiding new business initiatives within the bank.
- Develops competence in the use of new tools and techniques that will support the overall objectives of the SAG division.
- Actively participates in Bancorp risk management committees, such as the Commercial Credit Policy Committee, and Corporate Credit Committee to communicate performance of the SAG division, obtain approval for SAG business strategies, SAG policy changes, and formulate the overall direction and strategies of the Bank.
- Provide leadership and management of the SAG division, to include recruiting, selection, development, and performance management.
- Development of Educational Programs for line Credit, Risk and Relationship Management.
- Member of the Enterprise Committee, Operations Committee and Management Committee.
- Manages and oversees Middle Office related to:
- Service delivery to end users including Senior Lenders, Relationship Managers, Business Banking Officers, Retail Financial Center Managers, Portfolio Managers, internal and external legal council and the external client. Includes evaluating, monitoring, and reporting key performance measurement and quality goals.
- Direct the study and establishment of new and revised systems, procedures, methods and forms that would be used in, or have an effect on, the operations activities in the Commercial Fulfillment group.
- Formulation, recommendation, and implementation of operational policies, relative to operations and equipment and by collaborating with others in the company in the study and review of proposals for Middle Office functions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for providing employees timely, candid and constructive performance feedback, developing employees to their fullest potential and providing challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth, developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning, and recognizing and rewarding employees for accomplishments. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- College Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field required.
- Master's Degree in Business Administration or Finance preferred.
- Successful completion of advanced credit training, such as the Graduate Banking School, preferred.
- Minimum of ten years experience in complex, multi-business segment credit based lending.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Complex Problem resolution and analytical skills and the ability to interact well with all organizational levels.
- Ability to direct a large employee group in a multi-matrixed organization.
