The Rutgers Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (
CAIT) invite applications
for a Postdoctoral Associate position in the area of monitoring and modeling of flood hazard with applications in flood early warning systems, flood risk assessment and mitigation. The successful candidate will lead research activities related to hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for flood risk estimation, and prototyping flood monitoring and forecasting procedures at very high spatial resolution. The candidate will collaborate closely with the Remote Sensing and Hydrology lab and the Rutgers Infrastructure Resilience Group. Both groups involve a number of research activities ranging from hydrologic hazard prediction to state-of-art infrastructure mapping, and are supported by various federal funding programs such as
NASA
SERVIR,
NOAA Climate Variability and Predictability,
NSF Smart and Connected Community,
NSF Partnership for Innovation,
NSF Future Works programs, and
USDOT University Transportation Center program. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Coastal Marine Science, Earth Science, or a closely related field. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The candidate is expected to have experience in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and in one or
more of the following topics: in situ sensor installation and flood monitoring,
GIS & geospatial big data, AI/ML and data science approaches for hydrologic predictions, risk analysis.
Experience in working with big data from remote sensing is highly desirable.
Strong computer programming skills and experience in working with High Performance Clusters is preferred.
This position also requires good communication and presentation skills, and a strong proficiency in technical writing and editing. The individual will be expected to hold very high standards in how information is developed and presented.
The successful candidate is expected to be self-motivated and can think broadly and conceptually
and formulate creative, sophisticated solutions to complex problems, prioritize workload, and
work independently with general supervision. |
