Job Summary

Lightpath is seeking a Network Facilities Engineer to manage and oversee the critical facility infrastructure to include but not limited to structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing of our owned and external vendor colocation facilities. Responsibilities include the tracking all assets, scheduling of preventative maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, monitoring of each facility from an infrastructure maintenance, infrastructure upgrade, emergency response, housekeeping, customer support prospective.

We're looking for a skilled, enthusiastic colocation operations engineer to help organize and operate several colocation facilities from an infrastructure maintenance and upgrade prospective. This position is responsible for the support of the planning, designing, and engineering of power and space allocations within the Lightpath facilities and Datacenters. Individuals in this position are responsible for supporting 100% uptime for the Datacenter and its customers. The power and space solution will also include the budgetary approval process as well as project management of the solution to completion. The Network Facilities Engineer will validate all solutions are complete and meet the quality standards. Also, all necessary databases and systems updates are required. It is expected that he/she will be self-motivated, have a good attention to detail and able to self-manage capital projects with an outstanding professional attitude.

Will track all aspects of operations and performance of Critical infrastructure and will submit reports that will result in upgrades-based performance and/or capacity. This position will create and submit MOPs (Method of Procedure) and coordinate all work. These facilities consist of leased space within buildings that have power and cooling for LP and customer electronic equipment as well as leased space within a collocation facility that is either a cage or cabinet where electronic equipment is place and or fiber cross connects inner connect to other spaces within the facility or building. These spaces are also ILA huts along a fiber route from New Jersey to Ashburn VA where LP and LP customers house electronic equipment for their leased fiber network from LP.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of critical infrastructure maintenance to include but not limited to HVAC, generators, power plants and site BMS within a facility, including requests, plans to modify infrastructure.
  • Managing vendor maintenance contracts with to perform quarterly, semiannual and annual maintenance on the structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing critical infrastructure.
  • Plan and maintain preventative schedules.
  • Planning, designing, and allocation of power and space allocations within the Lightpath facilities and Datacenters.
  • Individuals in this position are responsible for supporting 100% uptime for the Datacenter and its customers. The Planning support will include collecting space and power data on a periodic basis and design for network growth/expansion.
  • The power and space solution will also include project management, project budget tracking, and the oversight of the solution to completion. The engineer will validate all solutions are complete and meet the quality standards.
  • Also, all necessary databases and systems data updates are required.
  • Support of emergency response procedures in case of power outages/failure.
  • Ensure compliance with Telcordia, OSHA, and company standards for Facilities Capital Projects. Monitor capital projects from planning through completion, ensuring quality assurance and compliance.
  • Maintain compliance and safety, environmental and regulatory standards that would apply.
  • Manage facility infrastructure upgrades, projects within a facility from a construction vendor prospective.
  • Oversee all aspects of external colocation spaces from a quarterly review with colocation vendors to understand uptime performance, maintenance records for critical infrastructure, LP fiber capacity.
  • Provide data/information for all collocation network growth and augmentation activities within an LP facility as well as external vendor facilities.
  • Drive process and procedure improvements within the organization. Develop and review MOPs (Method of Procedure) and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure).
  • Support to improve facility, network cost, efficiency, resiliency and reliability.
  • Provide support to installation and activation teams on fiber connectivity related questions, design and architecture.
  • Help support customer installations with an LP collocation facility.
  • Interface with customers or potential customers, as needed.
  • Continuously build relationships with vendors and suppliers, as needed.
  • Be available for after hours, nights, weekends and holidays in case of a facility outage or issue.
Qualifications
  • 10 + years' work experience in collocation facility operations, maintenance, planning, engineering, and or infrastructure deployment.
  • Management of critical systems in telecommunications facilities is preferred.
  • A good understanding of telecommunication networks and related equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of general industry networking technologies, including UPS, Generators, and Mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of DC and AC power infrastructure in telecommunications and Datacenter environment, including UPS, generators, transformers and power distribution systems.
  • Experience in the installation of large amp-hour Wet Cell and VRLA battery strings.
  • Familiarity with various test equipment such as Medtronic's, Fluke, etc.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Excellent documentation of records and reporting and good communication skills.
  • Familiar with collocation inventory systems, BMS systems, biometric access, video surveillance systems, electrical and cooling infrastructure systems, OSP networks, cross connect understanding.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including advanced features of Excel and Word, as well as Visio and office systems (e.g., Netcracker, SalesForce, etc.).
  • Highly organized and strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate the impact of design alternatives and negotiating agreements within the project team.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to travel is needed including but not limited to conduct site surveys, inspections, and attend client meetings. Travel will include remote facilities and vendor datacenter/CO locations.

Pay ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience
