We are hiring an Estimator/Project Manager at our Coos Bay, OR operation. In this role, you'll bid, negotiate and manage contracts for public and private heavy/civil construction, asphalt paving and concrete projects. This is a non-union, salaried/exempt position.
- Wage Scale: $85,000 - $100,000
- Benefits: Full non-union benefit package
Major Job Responsibilities will include: Estimating:
- Review data or materials and labor requirements for project(s).
- Prepare itemized list and perform quantity take-offs, compute cost factors and prepare estimates for planning and scheduling work.
- Maintain communication with clients, vendors and subcontractors to formulate estimates.
- Prepare bids, select vendors and subcontractors,
- Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring DBE requirements are met.
- Verify subcontractor pricing package before approving contract.
- Perform a comprehensive "bid day" analysis.
- Maintain and distribute required documentation of estimating activities.
- Help manage active company project bid schedule.
- Monitor market value of the company's products and services to maintain profitable market share.
Project Management:
- Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of project(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame.
- Accurately project revenue and cost financial forecasting.
- Review project bid documents to establish overall project work-plan.
- Work with Estimator to prepare and submit necessary bid documents, select vendors and subcontractors.
- Establish and manage project budget and profitability targets, provide updates as needed.
- Coordinate with construction managers, estimators, equipment managers, field superintendents, foremen to manage project resources, labor, schedule, and equipment.
- Maintain billings, sub-contract payments, material payments, collections, etc.
- Develop and maintain relationship with contract owners and agencies.
- Foster communication with project team, agencies, inspectors and senior management.
- Provide coaching to field personnel and handle issues as they arise.
- Respond and handle any union related inquiries related to the project.
- Support company safety policies to ensure project is accomplished in safe manner and per state/federal regulation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field of study, preferred, or, five (5) years of relevant work experience in heavy civil construction that qualifies you for this role.
- Knowledge of heavy highway construction paving, underground, concrete and grading practices.
- Prior experience in the use of computerized estimating, quantity takeoff and scheduling programs.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of union agreements and prevailing wage issues.
- Maintain the ability to work in high production environments.
- Demonstrate effective and accurate decision-making and leadership skills.
- Excellent supervisory communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction plans/specifications, technical procedures, maintenance manuals, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondences.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- An intermediate understanding of MS Office suite, basic data file management and organization, internet and web browser/search engines.
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid/Job software preferred.
- Basic understanding of JD Edwards or equivalent accounting software, preferred by not required.
- Valid Driver's license and acceptable driving record.
