Job Summary

This Accounting Manager role is responsible for overseeing and performing specialized and general accounting functions for the North America Shared Services Accounting Department. This Accounting Manager role partners with colleagues within accounting, human resources, payroll, legal, and financial planning and analysis to account for employee compensation and benefits as well as North America insurance policies.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accounting for North America compensation and benefits programs. This includes, but is not limited to accounting for payroll, various bonus programs, severance, employee stock compensation programs, and health benefits.
  • Responsible for accounting for insurance policies specific to North America. This includes general liability, auto, workers compensation, life insurance, and other policies.
  • Provide accounting and financial insights to support partners and their decision making processes. Partners include Human Resources, Payroll, Financial planning and Analysis and Legal related to accounting for employee compensation and benefits as well as insurance.
  • Effectively lead and motivate direct report through mentorship, coaching and development. Establish objectives, communication of policies and rules, and constructive feedback; build morale and motivation. Identify and mentor future organizational leaders. Ensure appropriate resources are provided to staff. Create an environment where employee feedback facilitates positive change.
  • Manage and ensure daily, weekly, monthly routine tasks are completed in full, on time, and accurately.
  • Reconciliation of complex balance sheet accounts and review/approve reconciliations prepared by direct report.
  • Preparation of quarterly and year-end audit schedules related to employee compensation and benefits.
  • Preparation of quarterly and year-end disclosure schedules related to employee compensation and benefits.
  • Apply a high level of accounting proficiency to recurring transactional activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and/or modify standard operating procedures related to the accounting for employee compensation, benefits, and insurance.
  • Execute and document monthly controls for compliance with SOX. Consider opportunities to improve control compliance coverage and efficiency in standard and/or changing processes for benefits and compensation accounting transactions.
  • Manage project implementation guidelines and deliverables related to the compensation and benefits processes. Develop and/or conduct testing scenarios for accounting/payroll system enhancements or changes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
  • CPA and/or MBA is a plus
  • 8 to 10 years' accounting experience, preferably in a large global consumer products organization
  • Management or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with SAP ERP system or other similar/related applications
  • Experience with Dayforce/Ceridian payroll system or other similar/related application is a plus
  • Experience with managing projects and effecting process improvement is preferred

Required Skills

  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with SAP, SAP S4 Hana, Ceridian payroll system or similar, is preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects and routine deliverables timely and accurately
  • Disciplined approach in developing and implementing standardized processes & procedures
  • Experience managing others
  • Passion for results and improving the status quo
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced use of Excel
