Department Overview

Pacific Gas & Electrics (PG&E) Vegetation Asset Strategy & Analytics (VASA) team is dedicated to ensuring the safe and reliable management of vegetation around PG&E infrastructure. Our VASA team works closely with the larger PG&E Vegetation Management Team facilitating work planning, data analytics, data management, and regulatory reporting. The core tenets of VASA are compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and improvements in system reliability and safety.

Position Summary

VASA is looking for a talented summer intern to support the development and reporting of various vegetation program applications, as well as conduct data analyses supporting the vegetation management work scope.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.85 to $35.11.

Responsibilities

  • Design dashboards that provide insightful representations of key metrics and performance indicators.
  • Perform data cleaning and processing to support scope of work planning.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses, leveraging large data sets from various sources.
  • Monitor and analyze vegetation-related data to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support various regulatory filings and data requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance vegetation management strategies.

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced data scientist and analysts. The intern will gain knowledge of the larger vegetation management organization through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics or a related engineering field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Experience with data management techniques and tools, such as python, SQL and excel
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms like Palantir Foundry or Amazon Web Services
  • Strong problem solving and analytics skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
  • Experience in PowerPoint development
