Position Overview:

The Commercial
Banking Team Lead is responsible for providing sales coaching, leadership, and
support to a team of 3 to 5 commercial relationship managers, with a primary
focus on driving the growth of the Commercial Banking line of business. This role actively manages and expands a
portfolio of commercial clients, emphasizing C&I (Commercial and
Industrial) banking, while fostering a collaborative team environment. The Team
Lead ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Commercial Banking
team, supporting the acquisition of new, profitable relationships and
maintaining long-standing relationships. Reporting to the Commercial Banking Manager, this role directly oversees
the Commercial Relationship Managers in the designated market, coaching and
developing the team to drive revenue growth, enhance business development
efforts, and manage commercial credit portfolios. Additionally, this role
represents the bank in the community, reinforcing Broadway Bank's image as a
sound, innovative, and profitable financial institution, while supporting
succession planning and talent development within the team.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides coaching and guidance to relationship managers to meet or exceed scorecard goals and annual budget objectives. Develops individualized plans to support team members' business development efforts.
  • Manages a portfolio of complex commercial credit relationships, ensuring appropriate credit structuring, monitoring, and risk management. Maximizes profitability while mitigating risk.
  • Leads by example in business development efforts, identifying opportunities to acquire new commercial clients and deepen existing relationships. Encourages the use of Business Development by Design and CRM tools to track and optimize client engagement.
  • Collaborates with internal partners including Private Banking, Wealth Management, Treasury Solutions, and Sales & Service Executives to enhance client relationships and expand cross-functional service offerings.
  • Ensures all proposed solutions are aligned with clients' short- and long-term needs, integrating commercial banking products and services to provide tailored financial solutions.
  • Actively represents Broadway Bank in the community, promoting the institution's reputation and bringing in high-value clientele. Participates in key community events and supports CRA initiatives to meet regulatory goals.
  • Coaches team members with a focus on professional growth and succession planning, preparing relationship managers for future leadership opportunities.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations to ensure adherence to bank policies and regulatory standards. Actively participates in Senior Officer's Loan Committee to safeguard the bank's assets and promote sound lending practices.
  • Oversees and participates in the credit evaluation process, including negotiating and structuring credit terms. Supports collection efforts to minimize potential losses on commercial loans.
  • Stays informed about local and regional market developments, economic trends, and regulatory changes that may impact the bank and its clients.
  • This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.


Experience & Education:

  • 7+ years of commercial lending experience, including relationship management, business development, portfolio management, and team leadership; 10+ years is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role within commercial lending, demonstrating the ability to manage and coach commercial bankers effectively; preferred.
  • Four-year college degree from an accredited university; Master's degree or professional designation in a related field and/or advanced financial services schooling is preferred.
  • Formal Credit Analysis Training is a plus.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong business development and relationship management skills, with the ability to coach and mentor team members in these areas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, particularly in credit analysis and underwriting.
  • Broad knowledge of financial services, banking operations, and compliance regulations.
  • Strong underwriting and credit structuring skills, with experience in managing complex credit relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, set performance objectives, and drive accountability to meet strategic goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CRM platforms, and banking-related software.
  • Ability to represent the bank in the community, including participation in CRA activities and events.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to grow client relationships and banking households.
  • A strategic thinker who is knowledgeable about local, state, and federal banking regulations, market conditions, and economic developments.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
  • Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required.
