About the Department of Aviation and Emergency Management
Housed within the School of Science, Aviation, Health, and Technology, the Department of Aviation and Emergency Management offers three dynamic degree programs:


  • Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management tracks)
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)
  • Emergency Management

Students have a variety of programming options tailored to their career aspirations. With a team of experienced and dedicated faculty, the department provides individualized guidance to help students select the aviation pathway that best fits their goals.
The Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management) programs are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), reinforcing ECSU's reputation for excellence in aviation education.

Faculty Position in Aviation Sciences (9-Month Appointment)
Department of Aviation and Emergency Management
Elizabeth City State University
The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management at Elizabeth City State University invites applications for a 9-month faculty appointment in Aviation Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering courses in both traditional and virtual classroom settings for undergraduate students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the AABI-accredited Aviation Science and UAS programs.
  • Engage in service to the department and university.
  • Assist in advancing the Aviation program as a global leader in the field.
  • Advise and mentor a diverse student population.
  • Develop and enhance programmatic areas within the department.
  • Conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and university.


We seek candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching, student mentorship, and program development.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
The ability to work with a diverse group of students.
Experience teaching at college level in distance learning format.
Experience with Learning Management System (such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.);

Preferred industry experience in the aviation or aerospace industries;
Minimum Training and Experience
Master's degree with 1-3 years of teaching experience required. Masters degree preferred in Aviation Science or a related area. Candidate with Masters degree in other discipline must have taken a minimum of 18 hours of aviation-related graduate coursework or demonstrated work experience in the aviation field. Desirable candidate will have experience in teaching Commercial Aviation, Meteorology, Regulatory Aspects and UAS courses.
