DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform routine work in the preparation of meals, as well as the sanitation of food preparation and serving areas at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center. Your duties will include preparing and plating food items as directed, lifting cases of food, and transporting food carts to required areas. In this position, you will also set up serving carts for tray assembly, interpret color coding for special diets, and deliver trays to residents as assigned. You can expect to clean dishes and tables and sanitize tabletops and dining room furniture. Additionally, you will record the use of items on inventory sheets, assist in preparation for special functions, and attend all mandatory in-service education.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing and able to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County
  • Willing and able to work a full-time schedule
  • Willing to work the hours 12:00 PM- 8:30 PM with rotating days and weekends
  • Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
  • Experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
