The Director of Clinical Operations for the Department of Pediatrics will be responsible for:

Planning

  • Develops and formulates department operational business strategy. Advises on defining key performance feedback and metrics with Executive Administrative Director and Vice President of Pediatrics. Identifies department operational needs, defines concrete goals, and frames subsequent plan for achieving goals
  • Continually seeks opportunities to enhance operational excellence through identifying collaborative initiatives and innovative approaches
  • Engages and secures support from stakeholders across all areas
  • Leads the project planning, solution design and implementation of new and/or improved operational initiatives

Execution

  • Provides operational subject matter expertise and direction to department managers in the execution of operational improvements, service and quality enhancements, and new business initiatives
  • Designs and memorializes operations workflows
  • Leads the training and communications efforts in support of operational change management

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of impacted operations through ongoing informal interaction with staff, formalized feedback, data analysis, etc.
  • Provides periodic (monthly) updates on projects, including proposed plans for implementing new business or process improvement initiatives, status of current implementation efforts and supporting metrics and analyses related to feasibility, cost, etc. of operations

Budgets

  • With other leadership, develops, plans and monitors department/foundation operating and capital budget, collaborating with Chief and BCH leadership
  • Participates as requested in overseeing expense (supplies, telephones, staffing, etc.) management issues; performs comparative analyses. Develops and implements strategies for cost containment

Team Management

  • Develops infrastructure that optimizes employee performance within and across teams to encompass the following: facilitating the communication of shared operational goals and standards; identifying training needs and leading the implementation of same; formalizing feedback across teams; facilitating effective staff development programs, etc
  • Coaches/Mentors managers in developing operational plans that produce enhanced levels of productivity and long-term success
  • Guides administrators in the effective use of staff to meet workload demands

Relationships

  • Identifies and initiates key relationships with internal hospital partners to optimize department operations and business development
  • Serves as key point of contact for the clinical department with professional practices and service organizations
  • Serves as liaison and coordinator with all satellite practices on all operational issues relating to new business development, operational improvement and overall operational effectiveness
  • design and implementation of new and/or improved operational initiatives

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree in business, healthcare administration or related field. MA degree preferred
  • 7 years of related experience, including 5 years in an academic/healthcare/operational role
  • Demonstrated ability to identify the need for and manage the implementation of complex new and/or improved operational processes
  • Operational knowledge and ability to understand the interconnectedness of processes and systems across groups
  • Strong management skills and ability to motivate and influence others
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
