What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly skilled Tool and Die Specialist to join our Can Stamping Department. As a Tool and Die Specialist, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on can stamping and can forming progressive die-sets to meet production standards and goals in a timely manner. You will support the Can Stamping Department and work collaboratively with the team to ensure efficient production. We are looking for candidates who are shift flexible and available to work overtime, based on business needs.
What You'll Do
- Maintain die-set PM system, including detailed work instructions and manage on schedule completion of PM activities
- Support defect troubleshooting procedures and die preparation check sheets and trial procedures
- Maintain die-set spare parts lists and ensure parts are set up and in stock
- Follow die cleaning method and adherence to schedule
- Identify and implement proactive systems to achieve consistent reduction in defects and productivity concerns
- Support development of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for production dies to identify critical risks and develop appropriate control plans
- Troubleshoot in press line and minimize die-set down times during production
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years progressively responsible hands-on experience working in stamping and forming die-set maintenance and repair
- Experience in operations, maintenance, and rework procedures for high-speed die-sets producing aluminum or steel cylinders, including tooling material selection
- Understanding and background working on lean projects (waste elimination, continuous improvement tools, JIT, flow, poka-yoke, etc.)
- Experience with interpretation of dimensional inspection results (checking fixture, CMM or vision system)
- Ability to work with and develop production performance metrics with engineers and management (efficiency, quality, safety, throughput, costs). Remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for success
- Demonstrated ability to support, promote, and improve a safety-focused environment
- Command of the English language, both verbal and written
Essential physical demands:
- Stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced, noisy environment
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in varying temperatures and environments
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and kneel as needed
