We are currently seeking an experienced Revenue and Billing Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our revenue and billing processes. We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical individual with a strong understanding of accounting principles and experience in project accounting. This position is based in our Northridge, CA office and is an exempt, non-supervisory, full-time position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the timely monthly and year-end revenue recognition process ensuring accuracy.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of invoices for submission to customers for various types of government contracts. Responsible for timely project close-outs.
  • Responsible for accounts receivable collections and analyses.
  • Collaborate with project managers, financial analysts and contracts personnel to ensure timely and accurate project set-up.
  • Generate, review and analyze project financial reports, including project status, project revenue summary, negative unbilled AR and AR aging reports, identifying and addressing any issues.
  • Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders regarding project billing and revenue inquiries
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close reconciliations and journal entries related to project accounting.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and standards related to project accounting and revenue recognition
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in revenue and billing processes.

Experiences and Background We Look For:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • At least five (5) years of accounting experience preferably Project Accounting
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Should have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues or escalates issues to management related to Project Accounting in a timely manner.
  • Be deadline driven, organized, and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and exercise good judgement.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and fully as a team member with a willingness to be flexible.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have:

  • CPA or CMA Certification a plus
  • Experience in the Defense or Aerospace Industry.
  • Familiarity with ASC 606
  • Possess strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks in fast paced environment.
  • Be able to work independently under regular direction and guidance on non-routine task requiring judgement and initiative.
  • Time & Material (T&M), Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Progress Payments or Cost-plus (CP) experience a plus.
  • Experience with Commercial/Government Contracts, and familiarity with Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) or Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) a plus.
  • Experience with payment systems like WAWF, ExoStar a plus.
  • Experience in Costpoint and Cognos Systems a plus.

The salary range for this role is $85,000/yr to $110,000/yr; however, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.

Other Requirements

U.S. citizenship is required to meet position eligibility.

Successful passage of a criminal background screen is required to meet position eligibility. Arete will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring.

Successful passage of a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test is required to meet position eligibility.
