This position will be available for 2-3 years funded by a Shared Resources Laboratory grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine as well as NIH funds, if incumbent is reappointed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advanced mass cytometry, mass imaging, flow cytometry, and cell sorting to lead the operations of the SCRC cytometry core facility. The core provides training, instrument maintenance and quality control, consultation, experimental protocol development and assistance, data acquisition and analysis, and related services for BD Aria, Fortessa, and Fusion instruments, as well as Standard Biotools' Helios and Hyperion instruments.

In this role, the incumbent will support research laboratories across campus; currently the SCRC cytometry core provides technical consulting and services to 70 labs distributed across the Schools of Medicine, Biology, Public Health, and Engineering. The incumbent will stay up to date on the latest mass cytometry, flow cytometry, and cell sorting instrumentation, as well as analysis software to support research use of these instruments. This role is crucial to maintaining this highly used core facility for the entire campus. Essential to the role is effective communication with investigators, staff and faculty for successful implementation of systems for quality assessment, consistency, and innovation. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with faculty and research staff on project management, design, technical requirements, and execution within the SCRC Cytometry Core lab. Oversight of operational quality, service delivery, budgeting, and strategic recommendations for equipment upgrades and expansion will also be part of this role.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent with at least 10 years of experience working directly with faculty, students, and laboratory staff operating BD flow cytometry analyzers and cell sorters, and SBT Helios/Hyperion instrumentation. The successful applicant will also have 5-7 years of experience in advanced analysis of high-dimensional imaging data derived from these instruments using HistoCat, VisioPharm, and other analysis software packages, along with experience in negotiating purchase/acquisition, installation, activation, maintenance, quality control, and optimizing operation of flow cytometers and cell sorters, Helios and Hyperion. Experience teaching and training users ranging from undergraduate and graduate students through to postdoctoral fellows and faculty members, organizing workshops and training clinics, established relationship with regional professional development and networking groups (such as SoCal Flow) is required.

The successful candidate will also possess strong management and leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, an excellent track record and a high level of motivation to supervise, train, and collaborate with various stakeholders.
