JOB SUMMARY
Works under general direction to perform professional level medical or scientific research assignments related to particular or specialized field of endeavor.
The Laboratory of Fangyu Liu, Ph.D. in the Department of Pharmacology is looking for a Research Technician. Dr. Liu's basic and translational science laboratory is dedicated to understanding the role of membrane enzymes in cancer progression with the ultimate goal of developing new treatment options for cancer. We integrate multidisciplinary approaches, including structural analyses by using cryo-EM, and structure-based virtual screening. Successful candidates will become integral parts of the Liu Lab and actively contribute to the Lab's scientific discoveries and publications. We are looking for a qualified candidate who will work closely with the principal investigator to provide technical support and help maintain the lab. Prior experimental or computational research experience is strongly preferred.
For experimental side:
* Perform experiments in science areas, including molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, and other related fields
* Maintain cell cultures and perform cell experiments per lab protocol
* Record scientific data obtained from assigned experiments in an organized lab notebook and review with supervisor
* Read literature and confers with supervisor for new procedure implementations
* Work with supervisor and other lab members for preparing scientific publications
* Support lab operations through various activities, including ordering reagents, maintaining laboratory areas, and lab equipment maintenance
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Technical skills:
* Protein purification, cloning, cell culture, biochemical assays
For computational side:
* Manage and maintain code repositories using source control tools like Git.
* Develop and implement programming solutions for data processing in biomedical research.
* Create reusable components and procedures to optimize data workflows.
* Organize, maintain, and troubleshoot the lab's local computational clusters.
* Manage and update 3rd-party software dependencies and licenses to ensure compatibility with lab operations.
* Technical Skills:
* Proficient in Python programming.
* Experienced with command-line operations and shell scripting.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment. and
Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment.
- Experience
3 years of laboratory experience with Master's degree. and 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. or
4 years of laboratory experience with Bachelor's degree. and 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.
JOB DUTIES
- Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.
- Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
- Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.
- Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
- Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication.
- May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
