General Notes

This position is a fixed-term position, contingent upon successful renewal of funding for a total of three years.

Purpose

The associate director for clinical placement (ADCP) oversees the process for clinical placement for undergraduate and graduate placements; assists in acquiring and retaining clinical placement options; and monitors and assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes for clinical placements.

Responsibilities Undergraduate and Graduate Placements

Responsible for clinical placements for students in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Capstone

  • Alternate Entry in the Master of Science in Nursing (Integration, Leadership in Diverse Settings [LeaDS] Capstone Projects)

Communication & Coordination
  • Arrange clinical experiences which meet the educational requirements for students.

  • Maintains awareness of clinical agency policies affecting the School of Nursing.

  • Assures appropriate orientation of faculty and students to the clinical sites.

  • Partners with faculty to educate students on clinical placement processes and expectations.

  • Communicate with representatives of the agencies in which students are placed to maintain a variety of clinical practice sites for students.

  • Partner with program heads to improve processes and communication pipelines to increase efficiency in the clinical placement process.

  • Maintains communication with preceptors, faculty, and students regarding placements

  • Maintains contacts within clinical sites to regularly update/clarify onboarding and orientation processes and/or affiliation agreements.

  • Communicates (including information on Course Objectives, student start/end dates, clinical evaluations) with preceptors.

  • Streamlines communication processes between preceptors, faculty, and students, enhancing efficiency ensures timely placement of students at clinical sites.

  • Visits students and preceptors at clinical sites to strengthen processes and retention.

Preceptor and Site Recruitment & Retention
  • Forming partnerships with employers (e.g., hospitals, community health, educational institutions) to identify and secure experiential learning projects (e.g., Disseminating Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership in Diverse Settings Capstone) for graduate students to develop transferable career skills that competitively positions them for their transition into leadership career opportunities.

  • Assists with general preceptor recruitment and retention events and activities.

  • Assists with recruiting a pool of high-quality preceptors and facility partnerships, strengthening the clinical training network and meeting placement demands.

  • Researches and recommends appropriate agencies that would meet the identified educational requirements for clinical experiences for nursing students.

  • Assist with partnering with faculty to visit new preceptors at the end of their first semester of precepting and to personally acknowledge (e.g., tokens of appreciation) their contributions.

Data Collection
  • Assists in the collection and reporting of "90% Career Knowledge Rate" and the "90% Career Outcomes Rate" metrics and other impactful (e.g., placement/employment-to-employment/placement conversation, first-choice placement/employment, confidence self-assessment, satisfaction surveys) career success data and statistics.

  • Develop, collect, and report additional impactful (e.g., placement/employment-to-employment/placement conversation, first-choice placement/employment, confidence self-assessment, satisfaction surveys; compensation) career success data and statistics.

Supervision
  • Supervise and support clinical placement staff

  • Directly develops and manages clinical placement staff.

  • Mapping, documenting, assessing, and evaluating processes to ensure continuity of programs and services

  • Crosstrain staff to ensure the sustainability of programs and services

Additional Duties
  • Additional duties as assigned, including staffing special events (e.g., Convocation, Light the Lamp) and front reception/phone as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or experience in a school of nursing or healthcare setting (e.g., hospitals, clinics) with at least 5 years of program or project management experience, especially managing competing deadlines.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills and oral and written communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, manage multiple concurrent projects.

  • Professional demeanor and ability to work well with a wide variety of people.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with nursing students, faculty, and/or clinical partners.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office platforms: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree with experience in a school of nursing or healthcare setting (e.g., hospitals, clinics).

  • Experience working in a clinical setting.

  • Experienced working in grant-funded, metrics intensive, and results-driven environment.

Salary Range

$75,000+ depending on qualifications
