Job Overview

The Medical Technologist I POC, supports Point of Care testing for the Anschutz campus and Network of Care sites. Sometimes, instead of coming to our lab for testing, the lab comes to you. Point-of-care (POC) testing refers to the tests that your child's care team conducts at their bedside - at the point of care. And when team members perform POC testing, parents can rest easy knowing that every nurse, provider and clinical care team member meets or exceeds our standards for quality and patient safety.

Our laboratory testing plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric, adult and prenatal conditions. With state-of-the-art laboratory services, facilities and technologies, we support and guide quality patient care across the pediatric spectrum. Our labs offer a wide range of high-quality lab screenings and diagnostic tests with rapid turnaround times, as well as an unmatched scope and capabilities, including diagnostic tests that aren't available anywhere else in the country. Additional Information

Department: Point of Care Testing
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Monday- Friday, 0800-1830. 4-10's with one day off during the week. This position requires rotating on call for weekends/holidays, days and hours may vary based on department need.
* This position is based out of Anschutz campus, but travel to other CHCO locations is required.
Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - Medical Technologist/Scientist Certification ASCP or equivalent or certification required within 6 months of eligibility.
  • Previous core laboratory experience is preferred.
  • The ideal applicant would have excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Responsible for evaluating point of care results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.
  • Ensures quality control is acceptable and point of care devices are functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.
  • Consciously works to identify errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
  • Performs point of care laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies.
  • Assists operators in troubleshooting point of care devices when requested or when results are questionable.
  • Documents point of care operator competency assessment.
  • Responsible for maintaining basic knowledge of current laboratory regulations and quality indicators.
  • Participates in evaluating quality assurance activities such as maintenance, reagent storage and quality control review.
  • Participates in proficiency testing distribution for Point of Care testing locations.
  • May teach and/or train healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $59,514.35 to $89,271.53
Hourly Salary Range: $28.61 to $42.92
