Assistant Professor in Wind Engineering 39615BR Engineering Position Description Our world is warming; atmospheric hazards are becoming more frequent and more intense. Growing resilient communities is a national priority, and the National Wind Institute (NWI) at Texas Tech University (TTU) is expanding its effort to mitigate atmospheric hazards through the synthesis of the physical, social, data dimensions of the problem. We are seeking an ambitious faculty member in wind engineering that is well versed in data science and capable of connecting with atmospheric and social scientists to join our team. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant externally-funded research program; pursue a variety of traditional and non-traditional research funding sources; generate a scholarly publication record; advise graduate and undergraduate students; possess an enthusiasm for diverse and innovative teaching; participate in national and international technical committees and outreach activities; and work within a multi-disciplinary group to develop actionable engineering and social strategies that contribute to a significant reduction in the impact of wind hazards on society. NWI, along with the Whitacre College of Engineering at TTU, invite applications for this full-time, 9-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank which is anticipated to begin in the Fall of 2025. About the College The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE, https://www.depts.ttu.edu/coe/) houses seven departments which offer nine bachelor's, 13 master's, and eight doctoral degree programs. The college serves approximately 4800 undergraduate and 1300 graduate students, supported by 220 faculty and instructors. The WCOE consists of the Departments of Chemical Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Petroleum Engineering. All BS programs and the Environmental Engineering Master's program are ABET accredited. Annual total research expenditures in 2023 at the college were $41.6 M. About the Department/School/Area NWI was first established in 1970 in response to an F5 tornado which impacted Lubbock. While affiliated faculty originally focused solely on engineering, the Institute quickly expanded to include other disciplines. Today, NWI's research agenda has expanded to include atmospheric measurement and prediction, wind engineering, and energy systems. NWI represents a multidisciplinary hub of innovative activity supported by a growing list of faculty affiliate and student contributors, unique suite of world-class facilities, and capable technical/administrative staff.
