What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analyst to join our Water-Based Fire Suppression New Product Introduction (NPI) team at our R&D facility in Cranston, RI.

At Cranston's R&D center our engineering teams are responsible for the design, development, and certification of fire protection products which aid in life safety and property loss mitigation.

The CFD Analyst will be responsible for providing expertise and technical leadership in applying numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems involving fluid flows, heat transfer, combustion, and multiphase flows in the field of fire and life safety.

This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

How you will do it

  • Responsible for the development and application of computational fluid dynamics models for fire protection systems. Understand and optimize current products/systems.

  • Strong knowledge in modeling combustion phenomena and multiphase flows.

  • Self-directed; able to strategize on test plans without established protocols; strong on-time and quality project delivery.

  • Working knowledge of the CFD tools, such as Ansys Fluent/OpenFoam, including pre-processing, simulation, and post-processing.

  • Able to apply fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts to the job.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, good written and oral communications skills, flexibility, and adaptability to changing situations.

  • Ability to write reports and convey detailed technical information to other engineers.

  • High attention to detail and solid organizational skills.

What we look for

Required

  • PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited university.

  • 3-5 Years of hands-on experience in using computational fluid dynamics tools for modeling combustion and multiphase flows.

  • Must display ability to work well with others in a diverse team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to communicate effectively with internal customers.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, ability to create engineering solutions to internal customer problems.

  • Knowledge of commercial and open source CFD software packages.

  • Experience in the use of CAD Packages.

  • Programming experience preferred.
