Position overview
The Research Methodology Consulting Center (RMCC) in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Minnesota (UMN) seeks a candidate to fill one Post-Doctoral Associate position. The position responsibilities include providing research consulting services, developing and compiling research resources, and coordinating initiatives for the Research Methodology Consulting Center.

The post-doctoral associate should be committed to supporting faculty and graduate student research projects as well as producing original research while pursuing collaboration opportunities both internal and external to UMN. Mentors are committed to the professional development of the post-doctoral associate and will provide resources to support development of skills pertaining to operating a consulting center.

The post-doctoral associate will be a full-time, 12-month employee of the University of Minnesota. The post-doctoral associate will work closely with and be supervised by Dr. Kyle Nickodem in the RMCC. Initial appointment will be one year, with an option for a second year based on performance and continued availability of funding. This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by the supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

Participating on funded research projects (50%)

  • Work with collaborators both internal and external to UMN on funded research projects.
  • Activities may include survey development, evaluation design and implementation, data management and archiving, data analysis through quantitative and mixed method approaches, developing and delivering workshops, and contributing to the dissemination of findings (e.g., journal manuscripts, conference proposals). Projects will be assigned based on the post-doctoral associate's expertise and opportunity for skill development.

Consulting with faculty on unfunded research and grant proposals, as well as with graduate students on their master's and dissertation work. (20%)

Developing methodological resources to improve the quality and efficiency of applied research. (20%)

  • Activities will align with current RMCC initiatives and can also be initiated by the post-doctoral associate.

Providing general support to RMCC administration and operations (10%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. completed by the agreed upon start date in educational psychology, psychology, statistics, evaluation, or a related field with emphasis in quantitative or mixed methods
  • Experiences focused on the development and application of quantitative or mixed methods in a variety of research settings (e.g., laboratory, school-based, community-based)
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: R, Python, Mplus, NVivo, or related languages and research software
  • Strong professional writing skills, including research reports, peer-reviewed research articles, or other print and electronic publications
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and providing mentorship
  • Experience seeking and/or securing external sponsored funds
  • Familiarity with open science practices
  • Demonstrated ability to be personable, flexible, and manage time efficiently

The Research Methodology Consulting Center (RMCC) in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Minnesota (UMN) provides research consulting services serving graduate students, faculty, and researchers in CEHD, as well as external partners. With a combination of services unique to education and human development research, the RMCC offers consulting on everything from developing a hypothesis and selecting the appropriate statistical analysis to the development of data collection protocols and reporting templates.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $70,000. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills and internal equity within the department.
